"We are refinishing the front door of our house. I took the original 1920s mortise lockset to Phillips to try to match it to a new one or get the old one back in shape. Frank cleaned and lubricated the lockset and had it working good as new for less than $30 while we waited. I got very good hints for reinstalling and updating the finish. We were very pleased with our experience and would recommend Phillips without a second thought."

"Every contact I've had with Ye Ole Locksmith has been far and above what I'm used to experiencing with locksmiths! <br /> Our main contact has been with Dustin who came out and was able to re-key every lock that we told him about except 1 which he had to order a custom part for. To save us $ he showed us how to remove the current lock and then had me stop by their shop when the replacement came in to pick it up- piece of cake! We'd forgotten about a basement door and realized it a few weeks after his initial visit. Again, to minimize the cost to us they just worked us into their next service trip to the area to replace it. They are friendly, very easy and accomodating to work with and do great work. Now we have 1 key that works in all locks and it turns really easily. I was very comfortable with them in my home and visiting their shop. <br /> They get my highest recommendation and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"For added security, I wanted to add two deadbolt locks to my house. <br /> Mobile Locksmith in Hudson NY was recommended to me by a friend. <br /> From the start they were friendly and professional. Jimmy arrived on the scheduled date (he was a bit late as there had been a few emergencies that he had to tend to) ? not problem for me as I was working from home that day. Work was handled quickly and neatly. <br /> <strong>I highly recommend Mobile Locksmith for your locksmith needs.</strong>"

"We used Angie's List and found this provider.  The provider was very quick to respond back and was detailed on the price it would cost for the work performed.  We had to wait a bit due to both our and their schedules, and when there was a miscommunication on the appointment time, the provider was accommodating in making sure that they were able to do the job with our schedule.  The service man that came to do the job was very pleasant and did the job accordingly.  We would highly recommend this Provider, JP Mangione, to any one looking for locksmith services. <br />"

"After I'd been scammed by and waited for another 'company' that advertised emergency service within 30 minutes, and never showed, I called the Center for Security. The person who answered the phone was professional, pleasant, and courteous. They sent Chris, who arrived in less than 30 minutes, and was sympathetic, good-natured, and good at what he does. He was able to extract the end of a key that had broken off in the deadbolt lock a couple of years ago and duplicate that to make a brand new key that worked on the first try. He also made some extra keys, since I'd lost the hidden key set that should have let me in in the first place. He patiently answered questions about possible home lock replacement/keying, & a problem with one auto key fob, and didn't try to upsell the services. They've just earned themselves a new customer."

"After online search of the company website, I visited the showroom on Central Avenue to learn more about available products and prices. Company representative was willing to come to my house outside of regular business hours, to inspect current locks and offer various options and prices. Installation was scheduled at my convenience and price was exactly as estimated. Technician was courteous and professional. I rated price "fair" because I believe it was a fair price; that is, I am satisfied that I received good value for the price. I also purchased a computerized car ignition key for substantially less than price quoted by my car dealer. I am very satisfied with this locksmith and would not hesitate to use their service again.  <br />"

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Albany, NY

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
