"He did a fantastic job on my grandma's 2014 Cadillac. She lost her key, so we had to have a new one programmed and a physical key made. He even gave us a few spare physical keys for free. He was courteous, friendly, and very professional. I would definitely recommend him. "

"I am very pleased with Seatown Locksmith. I originally took my vehicle to the manufacturer do have them fix a broken lock on the drivers side door. The Dealer informed me that they would have to re-core the lock and then also bring in a locksmith if I wanted the key to work in all locks. Dealers cost was approximately $450 to do this. <br /> <br />Instead I called Seatown Locksmith and within about ten minutes after arriving at their shop they had my drivers side door lock working again. They saved me over $400. I would recommend that you contact them <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Our house was broken into and the theives took a keyring with keys to all our doors. We attempted to call 5 other local locksmiths, several that claimed 24/7 emergency service but none could accomodate a same day appointment. Only Ballard Lock and Key could deliver on a same-day appointment and was out to our home in under an hour. <br />"

"He (Jerry, I think) showed up 30 mins late but there was a good explanation and I didn't mind. He looked at and took apart the locks and explained I would need two keys (as the locks were different manufacturers - one type was Schlage). He went out to the van and worked on the keys and made sure they worked perfectly. I also got extra sets. Meanwhile I asked if they had skeleton keys (for some of our inside doors). He said they had one type and it worked on about 25% of doors. I tried it out and it worked on one of the 3. He gave it to me for free. It took about 40 minutes to make the keys and he assembled the locks and showed me which keys worked where. He was very friendly and helpful and professional. I would use them again."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Seattle, WA

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
