"Called three locksmiths on a saturday morning with a somewhat emergency situation and they were the only ones to call back in a reasonable amount of time. He was already out working and came by right away to unlock the interior door. Price was great for the situation (early saturday morning) and I would definitely use again. Thanks! <br />"

"I am so pleased that I chose Under Lock and Key to replace my front door lock. <br /> I just bought a home in Lincoln, and have been updating various parts of the home. <br /> I had contacted Greg to simply rekey the existing lock, but I decided to change the outdated brass handle and deadbolt, with a new nickel set. <br /> Greg was flexible enough to accommodate my request. In fact, he came out a day earlier than planned (it worked into both of our schedules). <br /> Greg was pleasant, conversed politely with me, but maintained focus on the job to be done. <br /> I am so impressed with the quality of his work that I plan to have him come out to replace all of the other door handles in the home (from brass to nickel, of course), and replace the deadbolts in the doors to the garage. <br /> All in all, a great job done by a great locksmith! <br /> <br /> <br />"

"The reason I selected J & J Locksmith was because years ago I was aware of them unlocking an old safe - maybe 1800's - that took a few days to determine the combination.  They were able to unlock the safe safely which was not an easy task.  Television crews were there to report on the unlocking of the safe. <br /> Regarding the work the company did for me, the locksmith gave me an option to save money by not making so many combination changes and keys but did the work the way I wanted on four doors.  He was very knowledgeable and went to work immediately.  When I telephoned the office, I was told the cost for each part of the work so I knew what to expect to pay.  I was told an approximate time he would arrive at my home and he was even a few minutes early.  It was obvious he enjoys his work and offered excellent customer service.  I would definitely use J & J Locksmith again. <br />"

"I called in the morning to have my new house re-keyed. I set an appointment with Glen to come out between 3 and 4pm that afternoon. He was punctual, arriving just after 3pm, and was very professional, personable, and courteous. I had six doors that needed to be re-keyed, and I overlooked the fact that three of the doors had locks on both sides when I provided the information over the phone and was quoted $15 per door (it should have been $15 per side). Glen was super gracious and honored the quoted price, even when I tried to meet him in the middle. He even pointed out a few things I needed to know about my doors. Not only that, but I was working on pulling staples up out of my floor base prepping to have new flooring put in, and he gave me a cool magnetic parts bowl for my staples...very thoughtful! I will definitely use this service again for future locksmith needs!"

"Everything went great.  The locksmith was professional and thorough.  The lock that he swapped out was too shallow, so he drilled it out so that the bolt could actually complete the full turn.  He also fixed another lock that was originally installed upside down, without me asking (I forgot).  I highly recommend this company. <br />"

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Sacramento, CA

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
