Customers say: True professional

"Ron did a great job. He was very friendly and professional. He worked with my busy schedule and got the work done quickly. The price was very fair, he even gave me an estimate over the phone, and didn’t change it or add any fees when the job was done. If I ever need a locksmith again, he’ll be the one I call."

"Very friendly service and so fast I couldn't even believe it. He re-keyed 5 locks on 3 separate doors in under 10 minutes at $20/lock. Definitely a bargain and I'll use them again if needed."

"ASAP locksmith fixed the Detex alarm so it worked again. I gave him permission to order a replacement part that was broken, so it took 2 trips to fix the issue correctly. I would call him again if we have more issues with anything lock related. <br>"

"<p>I called on a Thursday to try to get a weekend appointment, They attempted to get a locksmith to my home earlier but Tuesday morning between 9-11 was my slot. They were very professional on the phone, even calling the day before to say they wouldn't arrive until about 11:15. The tech actually arrived after noon. The tech called when on the way and when he arrived so I could put my dogs up.</p> <p><br /></p> <p>They were done in a very short time, the tech was very polite, professional and courteous. I highly recommend this service.</p> <br />"

"First of all, Jay showed up ON TIME, but at the wrong address - because I had accidentally transposed our street number in my communication with him! Thank goodness we're not on 19th St (we're on 54th) and it only took him another 5 minutes to get here.  It didn't bother him at all, and he was happy, extremely friendly, and polite.  He went about his work efficiently, and at the same time talked with me about our setup and what he recommended for us (because of concerns I expressed, he recommended changing our ANSI Grade 2 deadbolt to a Grade 1).  He also noticed the existing deadbolt plate was crooked and said he'd square it up.  Details like that take someone from good to great.  He was done in 10 minutes and was never pushy about his recommended changes.  We're having him back to do the rest of our lock work. <br /> As a side note, someone had mentioned to us that if you have two locks, it might be safest to have two different locksmiths replace them.  Just to see what would happen, I asked Jay if he had ever heard of that and what he thought.  While he had never thought of that before, he completely understood (except with Mult-T-Lock because of how secure it is).  He then said that if we did use someone else, to please make sure we use Angie's List to find someone reputable.  Very professional answer, and made my question moot. <br />"

"I was locked out of my house after school drop-off. I was afraid that since it was super-early, I wouldn't be able to find a locksmith that would be available asap and would be stuck in my driveway until lunchtime. Fortunately, I called Urgent Lock & Key and Chris arrived 20 mins later, as he had promised. He was able to unlock my door quickly and suggested that I get my other locks rekeyed. He was able to get everything done within 30 mins. UPDATE: I added an extra zero to the price. It was $130, not $1300."

"I was at the Cypress Creek carwash washing my truck and when I went to leave, I could not turn the key in the ignition of my truck, it was completely stuck and locked up.  I called Anderson Mill Lock and Key.  The person that answered the phone was very courteous and transferred my over to John, a locksmith.  John seemed quite knowledgeable when I explained the problem and told me he'd encountered this particular problem before in other Dodge vehicles.  In order to save me time and money, John first tried to walk me through the process over the phone on how to "unstick" my ignition and get my key to turn.  Unfortunately, I was still unable to turn the key in the ignition, however I appreciated the fact that they attempted to try to help me fix the problem over the phone and thus, avoid charging me a service call fee. John then informed me that he would come to my location, he described the vehicle he was driving and got my cell phone number in case he needed help in finding my location.  He told me he'd arrive in 10 minutes and he was there within 10 minutes.  He not only unlocked my ignition, he also fixed the ignition lock so that the likelihood of this same problem occurring again would be extremely low.  He was honest, straightforward, polite, and explained everything he was doing and even taught me something about my truck ignition.  The van he arrived in had all his equipment and tools in it so he was able to complete all the work right there at the car wash.  It was a genuine pleasure to watch someone at work who not only knew exactly what he was doing, but also enjoyed the work he was doing.  After the work was complete, he was able to run my credit card right there at the work site, give me a receipt and he gave me his business card with his cell phone number on it.  I would absolutely use Anderson Mill Lock and Key again."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Austin, TX

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
