"Called Jason to cut and program a key for my truck. He was out the same day writhing a couple hours and got it done in 10 minutes. Very professional and quick and economical. Will be using him for all my rental keys moving forward."

"I just moved into a new home and wanted my locks changed. Joe was very knowledgeable and explained that all I needed to do was have the existing locks rekeyed. The existing locks are very expensive and would be even more expensive to replace each and every one. He was on time and you can tell that he really knows what he's doing and enjoys his work. Every once in awhile I looked over what he was doing and you could tell he was totally competent. I didn't know it but my house has two different types of locks Yale and Schlage he rekeyed the two different types of locks to my home and gave me advice on how to program an existing digital lock. Joe is trustworthy and I would call him immediately for any of my locksmith needs and suggest him to friends and family."

"The service was excellent. Locks are working better than they ever have. The locksmith was friendly, professional, timely, and did fast excellent work. They also saved me money, as when I first contacted them, I was seeking to replace, rather than simply repair, the affected doorknobs and deadbolts. After diagnosing the problem, they advised me that the house had merely settled a bit, but that the hardware was of good quality and still in working order with a little adjustment, and that I could save a lot by not having to replace the hardware. What they charged me was extremely reasonable. They came out the day after I called. I highly recommend this company."

"Excellent service and responsiveness from start to finish. Couldn't ask for a more professional experience. I would not hesitate to recommend Goings Safe and Lock for any locksmith work - 110% positive interaction. Arrived right on time, explained what he would be doing before starting, explained anticipated charges after reviewing the needed work, and cut the new keys before leaving."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Raleigh, NC

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
