"Great customer service from initial call to Ed's job completion. They did not provide a low ball estimate to obtain job. Had three new deadbolt applications with one being a difficult placement. He re-keyed all the same. Deadbolts were purchased from major box store with one setup missing a ring component. Ed ordered missing ring component then came back next day, disassembled deadbolt and replaced ring component at no charge. The only locksmith I will ever call again."

"Replaced two locks and re-keyed them to match front door lock; however did not leave me any keys for the rear door deadbolt installed. Had to have return appointment to get extra keys."

"We bought new doors and hardware and, once they were installed, we had three doors with two different keys. We hired A. B. after receiving a quote and talking to them. They were about 15 minutes early for the appointment (good with us) and were done in less than an hour. The locksmith asked me how many keys we wanted and made them. He tested them and waited here while we tested them too. They offered a discounted quote because I told them we are Angie's List customers."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Cincinnati, OH

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
