"Jim was great to work with. He was able to come to my house the day after I called him and re-keyed 3 doors for my new house. I would recommend Jim to anyone needing a locksmith."

"We bought new doors and hardware and, once they were installed, we had three doors with two different keys. We hired A. B. after receiving a quote and talking to them. They were about 15 minutes early for the appointment (good with us) and were done in less than an hour. The locksmith asked me how many keys we wanted and made them. He tested them and waited here while we tested them too. They offered a discounted quote because I told them we are Angie's List customers."

"It went very well. Tim was available when I called and was at our house in about 10-15 minutes! Very nice young man. We discussed what needed to be done, he explained pricing and we had an agreement. He went to work immediately and worked quickly and efficiently. He made five keys, each of which worked perfectly. He was finished in well under an hour. I would highly recommend Mr. Lock and plan to use Mr. Lock for any future locksmithing needs."

"I have an old dog with bad hips that goes out our french doors and down a ramp I build for her to get to the backyard, any other way out requires stairs which she can't do except in an emergency. When I got up this morning to let her out the doors would not open. I tried everything I could think of and then called Brothers Lock and Key. They are about 2 miles away and I have used them many times to re key locks etc. over the past 10-20 yrs. When I called they answered right away and told me they would have a serviceman call and talk to me about it. Unfortunately I had an auto service appt in a half hour so I asked that he call me after 11:AM . I got the call about 11:15 and after I told him my problem he said he could be here in a half hour! He was right on time and in about a half hour or so, the lock set was fixed! The latching mechanism inside had broken and required a new one (and I even had a spare part from some older parts I had kept) I really appreciated that they could come so quickly and that the doors are now working for my old girl to go out back! <br />"

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Cincinnati, OH

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
