"Bob inspected the window frames and provided a few solutions I hadn’t considered. Same for interior doors no longer hanging properly. Although I typically prefer paying by the job instead of by the hour, Bob was quite focused on his work and use of time. I will be asking him to return in the spring to complete a few additional repairs and install a storm door."

"My experience with Mass Garage Doors Expert was fantastic! The owner, Ronen, came to my home and he fixed my garage door quickly and efficiently. He went above and beyond by helping me program the garage door opener which is built into my car. Great company!"

"Overhead Door sent out a representative within 2-3 days of contacting them for an estimate. The representative was knowledgeable, very friendly and also saved us money by suggesting that we keep our existing garage door hardware, track and remote, as they were still in good working condition. I went to the Overhead Door facility on Riverside St./Portland to see the doors available in their showroom. They required a deposit to order the doors. Approximately 6 weeks later, the installation took place. They removed the 2 doors, repaired the existing tracks (now the tracks work better and look much sleeker) installed the new doors, re-programmed our existing car remotes, and walked us through the work that he had completed. I strongly recommend this company.

"Our house was built in 1920. When we bought the house around ten years ago we knew we would have a lot of work to do, especially in the kitchen. The kitchen was a small galley style kitchen with little counter space and even less storage. The dining room next to it had one chandelier for light and one outlet. My husband and I thought to combine our small galley kitchen and dining room to create a new large kitchen area. We knew that we could not do it ourselves and we knew that we wanted a great contractor to do it. My husband joined Angies List in hopes of finding a contractor who could make our dream come true. We found that contractor in Superior Kitchens and Baths with Brandon and Jane Newhouse.
From our first meeting we knew we liked Brandon. He was very enthusiastic about what we wanted to do and that enthusiasm never waned from the start to the finish of our kitchen renovation. Brandon saw what our hopes were and he helped us to hone our ideas into a beautiful and wonderfully functional kitchen. After meeting to discuss our thoughts and measuring our space, Brandon was able to provide us with three-dimensional drawings of new kitchen layout ideas. Once we settled on a plan he gave us a very detailed project quote. This quote included each step in the process and the costs incurred for each step. I have to say that Brandon?s team not only stayed within budget but also stayed on time. Each day, Brandon answered our questions, educated us on the various aspects of the project, introduced us to talented craftspeople, which all together, made our dream kitchen come to life!
I cannot tell you how much we absolutely LOVE our new kitchen. We spend more time in it (that?s where I am writing this review right now) than any other room in the house. It?s warm and inviting for our small family or any large gathering. It has so much more storage than it did before and I have more outlets than I need (which I love). This kitchen has brought new life to our old home. We are so very grateful to Brandon, Jane and their team of professionals.
With any project you have to make choices and hope that it will work out. Brandon and Jane, all of the other contractors, were able to see what I wanted and give me solid advice when it came to making those choices. From the beginning I felt confident that they knew what our hopes were and by the end that proved correct. Brandon and Jane?s team of contractors are extremely competent and professional. They care about what they do and shows in their work. Each person has excellent skill set in each of their areas of expertise and they are friendly to top it off. I would not hesitate to contact Brandon and Jane to start another project. In fact we are saving for a bathroom renovation.
PROJECT DETAILS:
Before the project officially began Brandon came to the house and set up plastic zip doors to keep the dust and debris out of the rest of our house. He also installed floor coverings to protect our wooden floors. A constant (and appreciated) question from Brandon, as well as the other contractors, was, ?How?s the dust?? To be honest cleanliness was never an issue and all of the contractors were very good about cleaning up when they were done.
Cabinets: Our first step was to choose our new cabinets as they can take a month or so to be fabricated and shipped. Brandon sent us up with a cabinet company. They were wonderful and we were very quickly, able to find the style and colors we wanted while staying within our budget.
Demolition: The old kitchen was completely gutted and thrown in the dumpster! Brandon set up for a company to come in to do the job. These guys worked very hard over two days removing walls, ceilings and also an old chimney that ran from the basement out the top of the house. Brandon and his team came over to fix the roof making sure it was sealed properly. Remember that all of these walls and ceilings were plaster (and it is not easy to remove plaster). These guys were great and when they were done the room was clean and ready to be worked on.
New wall, windows, etc.: The back wall of the new kitchen was completely removed and reframed. They rebuilt the entire wall. They also removed a window and rebuilt it into the wall ? shingled outside and framed the interior wall, getting it ready for drywall. Insulation went in, a new window, a new door. After the walls had been plastered Shawn framed the new window, door and floor by finding new trim that matched the rest of the house.  He and Brandon also installed the new cabinets. See below for more details about that!
Flooring: We decided early on that we would put new flooring in the room. The previous kitchen had three or four layers of old linoleum and the dining room had a wood floor. There was an inch in height difference between the two. My husband and I wanted a wood floor so Brandon coordinated that. He priced out the floor and it was just what we wanted and within budget. The new flooring was put in over a couple of days and it started to transform the empty space. The floors were stained after all of the cabinets had been installed a few weeks later.
Plumbing/HVAC: Our current heating system is forced hot air and there was a duct in the old wall that led up to the second floor. The plumber rerouted the ductwork that went upstairs to an interior wall. He then added a new vent in the kitchen area (now our kitchen is the warmest room in the house). The plumber also tackled the sink, dishwasher and water line to the refrigerator. The previous plumbing all had to be moved.
Electrical: Our previous kitchen and dining room had a combined four outlets. It was a constant annoyance to not be able to plug anything in. The electrician not only got us up to code but also even discussed with me which switch plate should be first by asking, ?When you come in with groceries (or whatever), which light do you think you?d want on first?? And then we decided based off my answer which switch plate would go to which light. Very thoughtful! We have so many lights now in our kitchen: we can dim them all, we can have only certain lights on at a time? it?s very versatile.
Counter Tops/Sink/Faucet/Backsplash: To choose a counter top I met up with Jane Newhouse. Jane met with me at the store and pointed me in the right direction. We wanted a quartz counter and she showed me the samples. She talked with me about what I wanted it to look like and the benefits of each. I went home with two samples and was able to get input from my daughter and husband that night! We put in the order the next day. After we met to do the counter selection Jane also helped me to choose a new sink and faucet for the counter. I knew I wanted an under mounted sink. Jane sent me an email with a link to a website that had sinks and faucets to choose from. I asked her questions about which would work best and we found the perfect pieces. One of the last choices we had to make was the backsplash. By then Jane knew exactly what the feel of the kitchen was and she helped me to pick out the perfect stone.
Plastering: The day these guys came to work it was snowing out. Not only was it snowing it was forecasted to be a ?blizzard like storm.? (I actually half expected them not to come!) They came ready to go and spent the entire day putting up drywall (floors and ceilings) and then plastered it all!
Cabinet Installation: About this time the cabinets were ready for installation. I have to highlight the astounding work Brandon and Shawn did to install the new cabinets. Our home is almost 100 years old. From the front of the kitchen to the back there is a large slope in the floor. Not only that but our walls are no longer at right angles. In our old kitchen oranges would roll off the counter! There was nothing Brandon and Shawn could have done to fix the walls besides rebuilding the house but these two were a"

"The work completed we excellent and the installers were professional and thorough.  The only thing preventing an all "A's" review was some scheduling/responsiveness mishaps - bought off a deal that was fully subscribed, so it took a little longer than I expected to get the new doors installed.  In the end though, work was done well, and I am very happy with the overall product.

"When American Jewel installed the door I gave them A grades as I thought they did an excellent job.  But after using the door for a few weeks I noticed the dead bolt didn't close completely, but only about 2/3, and also noticed the screen door was no longer aligned properly, so although it closed and looked right, the door was slightly off and it would no longer lock.  I called American Jewel and they scheduled the installer to return and make the minor corrections.  The installer did not show up.  When I called American Jewel again, they did not return my calls. I complained to Angie's List, and via their complaint resolution process American Jewel contacted me.  They were very apologetic and attributed it to a mix up, accepted responsibility and sent the installer to my home to make the minor corrections.  I would use American Jewel again, despite this hiccup, as my wife and I like the door they installed, feel we received excellent value, and ultimately American Jewel followed through on the minor problems I described and corrected them all."

"Edson, the owner of ESP Painting, showed up early to give us a quote and was able to give us a very accurate estimate approximately five minutes after he'd left, sitting his truck outside the unit. : )  I needed to amend our original schedule and he was extremely accommodating. The painter moved very quickly and did an excellent job. They used top quality paints, the area was clean when I returned, and there was no confusion re paint colors. I wholeheartedly recommend ESP for painting jobs.
However, I asked them to also remove the old plastic baseboards and replace them with new ones. ESP contracted out the replacement job to someone who a). called me but did not leave his name or contact information, leaving me hanging when I needed to reschedule; b). installed the baseboards but did not paint them per our spoken agreement; c). managed to break the toilet in the unit (the water was running, and he managed to break the shutoff valve); d). only agreed to paint the baseboards after I pitched a minor fit to Edson (who was very responsive); and e). started texting me for payment A DAY AFTER THE JOB WAS FINISHED.  Net 30, anyone?  Give me some time to put it in the mail, anyone?  Did not dock his compensation for the $200 I had to pay a handyman to repair the toilet, either.
So I recommend that you use ESP for paint jobs, but find your own carpenter.

"The installation of the door was fine. The issue I had was with the lead up to the installation. I was told that the construction of the door would take time. I understand. The company never called me when the door was ready. They said they would call and would not call. This happened more than once. Once they told me an installation date, they did not include a time window. Those issues were actually the reason I chose the vendor through Angie's List. I was very disappointed. Again, the door looks fine and the installation was OK, but I was frustrated getting to that point."
