The inspector thought that there was probably debris in the chimney causing the blockage. So I hired Absolute Clean to unblock and clean the chimney. They found that the blockage was caused not by debris but by a piece of mortar protruding from the masonry. In fact the chimney had probably never been used even though the house was 47 years old. So it turned out that there wasn't really a whole lot of chimney sweeping to do as far as build-up, but there was a little debris which they cleaned out, and they checked it to make sure that it was safe to use.
