"American Professional Chimney installed a gas fireplace that is both beautiful (looks like a real wood fireplace) and warm. They installed a gasline that was done a very professional way, burying the line underground. Stephen and his team did an impeccable job, clearly explaining the pros and cons of the many options. Super happy with the service."

"Al was fantastic! He clearly explained that my fireplace was shutting off as a safety feature due to low oxygen levels. He also reassembled the logs in the firebox and showed me the proper way to start and stop the fireplace. Highly recommend his service!"

"Mark Pawling is a very nice contractor, and he and his crews do a good job.  Our fireplace was leaking and several grout courses needed to be regrouted.  This was done very quickly, and, when the leak was noticed to still be present after the repairs, Mark came out and repaired a few more courses of grout that still were contributing to the leak.  Problem solved.

"The technicians redid the bricks so that you couldn't even tell they were repaired. It looked beautiful. They put in a new liner in the chimney and waterproofed it. They redid the inside of the fireplace to bring it up to code and put in a chain that easily opens and closes the flue. It looks so good and easy that I may decide to use the fireplace again. They redid the pipes in the basement so the fumes from the boiler and hot water heater went up the chimney in the correct way. There had been water damage and they corrected the damage and closed off the hole in the wall (foundation) and made a bigger hole in the correct place so that everything was up to code. They were polite, efficient and worked very hard to get the work done in the promised two days. I have interviewed many companies and found this company to be straight-forward in telling me what they would do and didn't try to tell me they were giving me a "good deal." Rather I feel they gave me an honest estimate on what needed to be done and didn't try to pressure me into using their company. They did give me 10% off because I was an Angie's List customer. What company to use was a hard decision for me because I knew nothing about chimney repair. Because so much of the repair was inside the chimney I couldn't tell what they had done. Based on my experience I feel they did a good job. I don't have a picture of the repaired chimney but it looks great--better than it did before the bricks fell. If someone wants more detail I can copy exactly what they did from the invoice. Also, maybe the company can show a picture of the finished product. Since it is summer time I haven't had any experience using the chimney but will let you know how things work out during the winter."

"The team came out on time and did an outstanding job. The crew did a good job of protecting our hardwood floors and keeping the area clean inside our home. This was a quality installation and we are looking forward to cold weather so we can test out our new stove. I would definitely recommend for a chimney liner or wood stove installation."

"as soon as I plugged in what I needed on Angie's List, I got a phone call from Ambient. They were able to come out next-day and install a new system, as well as diagnosing that the HVAC system installed in my house three years ago was a nine year old unit (at the time, now 12 yrs old), among other things the initial technicians messed up, with improper ductwork and no insulation in the attic. They were done in 7 hours! Everyone was super friendly."

"Technician responded on time but did not have the color brick mortar needed for the repair.  Technician returned a couple days later and made the necessary repairs.  The work was very professional.  I would not hesitate to use BT Stone again.

"Had a little trouble getting the work scheduled, but once we did. They showed up on time and completed the work quickly and did a great job. The bricks look terrific, like new. They did such a great job, I immediately gave their name to my neighbor who was looking for someone to do similar work.

"The process with Jeffress Stone went extremely well. We had the unfortunate experience of purchasing our granite countertops from another company. The 2 seams in the black stone looked terrible (very wide gaps, filled in with dark gray epoxy and rough). The original company returned to repair, but the seams still looked terrible, and the company stated that was the way the seams should look and there was nothing else they could do.

After searching for a skilled craftsman to repair, we contacted Jeffress Stone and explained our dilemma. Dave Schwartz said the seams could be repaired and sent Greg for the job. Greg was on time, efficient, skilled and our seams look terrific! Greg removed the old epoxy and refilled with the appropriate mix of colors for the seams. He then re-sanded and polished the seams so that they are smooth and virtually invisible.

I would recommend Jeffress Stone for new countertop installation, as well as countertop repairs. Our only regret is that we didn't puchase our new countertops from them originally!"

FAQs for brick or stone fireplace installation projects in Baltimore, MD

A chimney liner lasts between 15 and 25 years, depending on the material. Aluminum liners last about five years, while cast-in-place liners can last up to 50 years. Regular professional inspections can reveal signs of deterioration, such as cracking or crumbling chimney walls, ensuring necessary repairs are made to maintain structural safety and efficiency.

Yes, a chimney liner is essential. It prevents dangerous heat and toxic gases from reaching surrounding materials, reducing fire risks and structural damage. A well-installed liner safeguards your masonry, directs harmful emissions outside, and enhances heating efficiency. Regular inspections and cleaning maintain your chimney liner’s performance, keeping your home secure and energy-efficient.

Creosote buildup occurs when burning wood releases tar that adheres to the chimney liner, posing a fire hazard. Regular professional chimney inspections and cleanings by qualified chimney sweeps will effectively manage creosote deposits, preventing dangerous conditions and costly repairs. Maintaining a clean chimney liner is essential for long-term performance and safety.
