"They did a great job. The technician was on time, polite, very quick, and knowledgeable. The technician answered all of my questions, and gave me helpful tips about how to use and care for my chimney/fireplace. I have also purchased chimney caps from them, which they are scheduled to install soon. I would definitely recommend them."

"Someone came out to check our interior and exterior walls. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. He said there were no major leaks in the mortar that were visible and the leaks were most likely coming from behind the gutter. He explained that the gutter would need to be removed, meaning I would need to hire a roofer since they do not deal with gutters or roofing and that I would end up paying for two jobs. He suggested instead that I find a roofer that would remove the gutter who was skilled enough to do the necessary tuckpointing to save us money. He also looked at the interior damage and told us the materials to buy because we said we wanted to repair that ourselves. He was extremely helpful and gave us the most economical suggestions rather than booking repairs with them and hiring a roofer. If we need work done to our masonry or foundation only in the future, I will definitely go with Hicon."

"The garage door opener had to be replaced as its electronics had gotten quite wonky and was producing strange results (door closing partway and then bouncing back or stopping and locking in place, or refusing to open or close with the remotes - in fact it appears the remote codes were being overwritten). Installation took a couple of hours with no issues. We had new concrete steps poured in the front and wanted a rail. The instructions on assembling the rails was a bit confusing so it was better to have someone more proficient than me doing this. They were able to decipher the instructions properly and set up the rail. The posts were securely bolted to the concrete and the rail works as intended. I appreciate that Dadstasks' quotes the work up front and even when difficulties arise (as happened today with trying to get the rail set up and on other previous jobs) which add time and effort they do no charge extra. In all cases I have had good communication with them prior to the quote so we all know what is involved going in."

"The biggest obstacle was scheduling.  The Angie's List confirmation email did not include the instruction to schedule on the Flow-Rite web site.  It took 3 or 4 emails to clarify that which delayed getting the work scheduled.
The replacement parts worked fine with the exception of some excess plastic on the valve which prevented a tight seal and thus lead to a running toilet.  It took a few minutes with the razor blade to cut the excess off and allowed the seal to form properly.  This probably should have been done by the installer.

"From start to finish, Jacob and his team FAR exceeded our expectations. Stellar customer service, competitive pricing, they arrived on time, took great care to protect our flooring and clean up all debris, they worked hard the entire time they were here, and provided clear explanations and answered all our questions. We'd gotten estimates from two other companies but when it came down to it, the customer service and attention to detail made Jacob the clear choice for us. We will stay with his company for our annual maintenance and would highly recommend him to anyone needing fireplace and chimney repair. Also, if you've been thinking about having your fireplace and chimney inspected, do it sooner, rather than later. In our case, the inspection revealed issues that needed immediate attention and it wouldn't have been safe to have even one more fire in the fireplace without replacing the liner and completing the necessary repairs. And none of the issues were visible to us until we saw the camera footage from the inspection."

"My wife and I were very impressed with the overall quality of work.  The original date that the roofing crew was supposed to come out was delayed by a few days due to sickness among the crew.  Robert and/or his wife did a great job calling me and filling me in when the crew would be there.  This was very important to me since I have young children at the house, and planned on being gone while the roof and gutters were being done.  Once the crew arrived, they were very professional and got started right away.  They took there time (in a good way) and did an excellent job.  The roof and gutters look great, and they did an excellent job cleaning up. In fact, they came an extra day to finish the cleanup and make sure there wasn't any nails or fragments that they had missed.  I would highly recommend them to anyone.  They are a family owned business who truly cares about their customers.

"I've used his services a few times in the past and was typically happy. The first two times it turned out very well, but they sent out an unexperienced team for he last job. I decided to give them another shot and called for an appointment. He said he was familiar was my home and would either drop off an estimate or give me a call to set it up. I have yet to hear from him. I will most likely work with another company."

FAQs for brick or stone fireplace installation projects in Cincinnati, OH

A chimney liner lasts between 15 and 25 years, depending on the material. Aluminum liners last about five years, while cast-in-place liners can last up to 50 years. Regular professional inspections can reveal signs of deterioration, such as cracking or crumbling chimney walls, ensuring necessary repairs are made to maintain structural safety and efficiency.

Yes, a chimney liner is essential. It prevents dangerous heat and toxic gases from reaching surrounding materials, reducing fire risks and structural damage. A well-installed liner safeguards your masonry, directs harmful emissions outside, and enhances heating efficiency. Regular inspections and cleaning maintain your chimney liner’s performance, keeping your home secure and energy-efficient.

Creosote buildup occurs when burning wood releases tar that adheres to the chimney liner, posing a fire hazard. Regular professional chimney inspections and cleanings by qualified chimney sweeps will effectively manage creosote deposits, preventing dangerous conditions and costly repairs.
