" It happened on Sunday 11/30/2025, I had called HNM LockSmith Louisville, (502 401 1107) the day before but they never showed up so I called them again on Sunday 11/30/205. They ended up showing up hours later. The reason I contacted them? I had recently purchased a house and I wanted to change/replace the old locks. When the technician arrived it took him 35 minutes to suppously replace all 3 old locks with new ones, I was entertained cleaning and organizing the house since I had moved in the day before. It was to my surprise that he charged me 863.90 Dollars for replacing 3 lock in less than 35 minutes. I was shocked but I ended up paying. After he left the house and I was done cleaning I tried to close the back door of the house and the door screen and that's when the ordeal begun. "A different locksmith company quoted me $200 more for the same service and they were unavailable until the following day. Lockdoctor charged me a fair price and arrived within a few hours. Michael and his work partner were professional, friendly, and had my car rekeyed in no time. They didn't have the exact fob for my car in stock, but were able to give me a temporary key until they could get the correct one ordered and delivered. In two days they came out to my work to bring me the correct fob, and even reprogrammed my old key that had gone missing and was found! I'm so thankful for their help and would recommend them to anyone in need of locksmith services for their vehicle"

"We hired Guardian to install our security system at our Washington, DC, business. The service and quality of the work was horrible. We had cameras and an alarm system installed; it was a relatively large system. They outsource most of the work to various vendors. They could not manage their vendors; what was supposed to take a week took two months. The sales rep did not return calls, and you could never get anyone in management on the phone. Random people would show up at unannounced times. The few things that an actual Guardian employee did were they made a huge mess of our newly remodeled office and were rude to our staff. We have offices in five markets across the US and have high security at each; we have never had such a poor experience."

"Disappointed in Cooks Locksmith Services… I got a new car key and the shell they gave me didn’t even match my car. The plastic broke in less than a month. I went back to get a new one and was told the product was bad and the plastic was cheap so they weren’t surprised it broke… wow. After waiting for an hour for them to cut a key that would actually work, I was getting pretty aggravated. They took off my glove box cover and didn’t put it all the way back on until we asked another guy to. At the end of all this, I had to pay for my new key - the same one they admitted had broken because of its crappy quality."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Louisville, KY

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
