"Kevin was outstanding, I recommend this service to anybody needing lock or key services. I had lost my keys to my 1987 Bronco and Kevin was able to grain full access. I needed full service replacement of ignition and door locks and keys. He was able to do this quickly and for a good price. He actually made a house call bringing his mobile workshop to my job. Everything was taken care of from getting the parts at the parts store and installing it to get me working. Very professional and very reasonable. I highly recommend this service."

"Although Sherwood had not been factory trained on these specific doors, he didn't let the inquiry drop right there. He contacted another locksmith he collaborated with that had the experience in these type of doors. From there, I could schedule the repair. The job was extensive and went well over the anticipated time to get it done (tricky door). But the lock and handle got installed along with fixing another underlying issue. It works better than it has in years, and the original quote was honored. It's a testament to his customer service that if a job was out of his range of experience, he collaborated with his network of locksmiths to find someone to get the job done."

"I called 1st Choice Locksmith because one of the deadbolt locks on our house was sprung.  1st Choice said he could come by and replace the lock, the only solution, or I could do it myself.  Once he explained how easy it was and what kind of lock to buy, I decided to try it on my own.  I found exactly what I needed at Hillsboro hardware, and the replacement went smoothly.  Kudos to 1st Choice for really providing helpful service instead of just trying to make a buck.  When we need a locksmith, I'm going to call 1st Choice. <br />"

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Nashville, TN

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
