"I am pleased with their service. They were punctual, they had an opening and moved my install date to earlier. They were even willing to adjust their installation hours around my schedule. I am pleased with this company and would hire them again. Looking forward to the savings on my energy bills."

"Earth-Right Mid-Atlantic ha s done two installations. The first was to install a Solar System on our home in July 2019 and the second was to insulator attics with Earth-Shield. The Solar Panel has reduced my monthly bill to $8.33 per month for the last year. The bill is for the Chesapeake Utility Tax. The system works flawlessly. The Earth-Shield was suggested by Earth Right Mid-Atlantic's salesman Corey Argentino. I has explained that we were experiencing imbalances in heating and cooling zones in the house. He suggested a product Called Earth-Shield and the too hot and too cold zones all disappeared. The house now has better and a more uniform heating and cooling result. The Heating Ventilating and AirConditioning systems do not run as frequently. Great Job."

"For the last two years, I have signed a yearly contract with Sweetlands to do a twice-a-year check on my heating and air-conditioning service as well as On-Demand Gas Water Heater.....fall check before I use my heating system and spring check before I use my AC system. Each time, the service associate has been on time, courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable when answering any questions I may have. I've even had Judy show up to perform the bi-annual check once! As I mentioned previously, I had a bad experience with another company that led to me switching to Sweetlands. On the first check done with Sweetlands, the service representative found a flaw in the previous company's work that could have resulted in a dangerous event and was definitely costing me more money from an operational standpoint. So, the switch to Sweetlands literally paid for itself with my first visit! I definitely believe that Sweetlands is a great local business, and I intend to continue my association with them in the coming years. My annual maintenance contract covering twice yearly cleaning, maintenance and check of all three of my units (Heating, AC, and On-Demand Gas Water Heater) is $374/year."

"United Home Services came the day I called them. He was very professional and courteous. Caleb came out and spent time thoroughly inspecting the project that needed to be done; He talked with me about it to make sure the fix that I requested would actually solve any and all issues. He gave me and estimate that same day and came out exactly when he said he would. I called him on a Monday and by Wednesday afternoon, the job was completely finished and looks wonderful! The price was very reasonable; but even more than that, I know I can trust United Home Services. I will definitely call them again!"

"I came home after work to no A/C, and 87 in the house.  Since Hybrid installed my system 5 years ago, I called the emergency number, and they called back in about an hour.  Told me that there would be a diagnostic fee of $150, on TOP of the repair cost, but no guarantee that it could be repaired the same night it just depended on what was wrong.  I thought that sounded rather outrageous, but it was hot as heck and although I really would have rather waited for a more reasonably priced repair, I would never be able to sleep in that heat.  (And they know that of course. )  So I reluctantly said OK.  He got there about 1.5 hours later.  Took about 15 minutes and he was done.  $525 was the total - the capacitor was $375.  That's extremely high, but honestly they know that you are desperate so they charge whatever they can.  Also told me that if I wanted to pay with a credit card it would cost 5% MORE.  The repair guy was fine...but the company policies sound rather unfair.

I liked them when I bought this system, I thought they did a good job for a fair price.  But I feel like this repair was really high.

"Our newly constructed home was supposed to have a sealed crawl. But, I didn't think it was sealed. I requested Crawl Space Systems to inspect it. And, he found a lot of problems, including code issues. He did a thorough job and the report was very detailed. The builder was able to respond to the main problems based on the suggestions in the reports."

FAQs for home energy audit projects in Newport News, VA

To prepare for a home energy audit, begin by preparing your space. Clear any obstructions around the attic, basement, ducts, crawl space, appliances, windows, and doors. Gather all your energy bills from the last year and information on home upgrades if you’ve made any changes. If you’ve previously had an audit done, include that information as well.

Finally, be prepared to discuss any questions or concerns you have. If you’ve noticed a rise in your energy bills, hot or cold areas in your home, or unusual sounds from ducts or appliances, make a list to discuss with your auditor.

How often you should get an energy audit depends on the age and condition of your home. New homes with no issues are recommended to get an audit every five years, while older homes should audit every two to three years. If you’ve noticed any changes to your energy bills or other areas of concern, you should get an audit as soon as possible. It’s also a good idea to conduct an audit if you’ve made changes or upgrades to your home, such as installing a new furnace, windows, or doors.

An energy audit takes three to four hours to complete. Your auditor sets up testing equipment, conducts an exhaustive walk‑through inspection, and performs all required evaluations to identify energy loss points. The audit follows a systematic review that includes visual assessments, mechanical tests, and detailed documentation, resulting in a precise report of improvement recommendations.

You can schedule a home energy audit any time of the year—it all depends on what's convenient for you. That said, timing it right can help you tackle issues before they impact your comfort and bills. If you live in a colder climate and want to avoid high heating costs in the winter, getting an audit in the summer allows you to make improvements before the temperature drops. On the contrary, if hot summers are your concern, a spring audit can help you stay cool and save on air conditioning.

To find a qualified home energy auditor, start by searching for local energy auditors with great reviews and recognized certifications like those from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). These credentials ensure they're qualified and can help you qualify for rebates. Don't hesitate to ask about their audit methods and schedule a consultation to see if they're a good fit for your needs. Doing some research upfront helps you get top-notch service and maximize your energy efficiency.

Once you have your energy audit report, it's time to take action. Review the recommendations and prioritize the upgrades that make the most sense for your home and budget. Reach out to experienced pros to get quotes and discuss how they can help. By making these improvements, you'll boost your home's energy efficiency, lower your utility bills, and enjoy a more comfortable living space.
