"I hired Allied Group because, first of all, it was very easy to schedule a time to get a quote and within just 5-10 minutes, Marc had a number of suggestions to upgrade my very small and very old bathroom which was leaking again. Given that I only have one bathroom, it was important to see if I could get efficiency and quality renovation in a two week period. And I did. Marc and his crew did a complete renovation- new floor, new ceiling, new lights, new vanity, construction for a medicine cabinet, shower tiling and installation of tub, toilet and vanity. High quality work and very responsive to questions. A bonus was a final house cleaning arranged by Marc. Highly recommend."

"Erick is a truly good man who stands by his word/price. I had two bathrooms remodeled and I am thrilled with the end result. Erick made sure that any inconvenience to my family was minimal and at the end of every day their clean up incredible. After getting three other estimates, I had Erick come over to estimate the price and his price was 20% lower than some of the other estimates. Erick is my go to contractor, I trust him and I intend to have him do some more work this spring. Feel safe hiring Erick, you will not be sorry."

"I needed plans for a two-car garage of a certain size and roof pitch. I could not find stock plans of specifically what I wanted. Richard was very prompt and helpful, produced the plans and arranged for an engineer's stamp."

"I have hired New England Carpentry several times for various projects, including facade repairs and repaint on a 3-story multifamily property in South Boston to replacing deck railing and balusters to building out a washer/dryer door frame to fit a larger set of machines. Gil has always been responsive, reliable, and fair. He always worked through what his client wanted but gave recommendations to save cost without sacrificing quality and look. Gil is trustworthy and my go-to for any project. This review is also after some time has passed and I can confirm his quality work holds up."

"I worked with Sean and his team on a large basement renovation as well as a few smaller projects throughout my clientâ s home. I found him to be professional, reliable, respectful and extremely competent in completing the project. We were especially appreciative of how inventive the team was while trying to combat specific issues we ran into. We had a set timeline and everyone did a great job ensuring things were organized and ran according to schedule. I highly recommend Sean and his team for any home renovation project! My client was beyond happy with the service provided."

Frequently asked questions
- It’s important that you verify their license is still in good standing. Also keep in mind that certain states or provinces don’t require licensing if the job is under a certain dollar amount.
- You can find a list of your state’s licensing requirements on the HomeAdvisor website. Before you get to work with the pro, make sure their qualifications are current and acceptable to you.
- It is always a good idea to get a copy of the pro’s insurance certificate for future records, and in case anything happens. This is a good way to feel more secure in your home project, and to weed out potential scammers.
HomeAdvisor makes it easy to connect with pros near you. You can read reviews, get quotes and book appointments all in one place.
Depending on the type of project, you may find subtle differences in the hiring process. Here’s a look at task-specific advice.
You can use HomeAdvisor to help evaluate a contractor’s qualifications. We put pros through a screening process, and award badges to high-performing contractors. You can find these badges on a pro’s HomeAdvisor profile, and sometimes, his or her website.
Your research doesn’t stop here. Once you’ve found a few prospective companies, make an call to ask a few questions about work history, licensure and more:
- Have you completed a job like this before?
- Do you have a list of references I can contact?
- When are you able to start the job?
In most cases, the responses you get to these three questions will give you a very good idea of the right pro for your project. If you have more than one front-runner, these additional questions can help you narrow it down.
- How many years of experience do you have?
- What’s your permanent business address?
- Are you licensed to work in my area?
- When did you earn your business license?
- How do you handle warranty service complaints?
- Do you have worker’s compensation, property damage and personal liability insurance?
Any good contractor will answer these questions, and most will appreciate dealing with a client that takes such an active interest in finding good service. On the other hand, if a contractor gives you a hard time with these questions, you probably want to find someone else.
