"Vince, the owner, was there himself. He pointed out a few small cracks and repairs that had been done on the firebox and said I should keep an eye on them. He suggested adding a fireback behind the grate to reflect more heat out of the fireplace into the room and to help protect and prolong the back wall of the fireplace insert (which has repairs on it already). <br /> Not only did they inspect and clean the fireplace, he made sure to inspect the furnace chimney as well. He climbed up on the roof, found there were no cap on the chimney and suggested adding that. He took pictures of the condition of the chimney and walked through it with me. In our case, the chimney is extremely old and the liner has gaps and broken spots and the chimney crown is in very poor condition with large gaps around the top where water leeks in. We talked about the fact that we need a new liner and to repair the chimney crown. The liner is currently on order and they will come back soon to install that (a stainless steel liner that goes in right over the current one, so no big demolition and clean up) and make the repairs. <br /> I paid $169 for inspection and cleaning. The rest was for the chimney cap and the fireback. <br /> Vince seems to be an honest straight shooter. I'm very happy with his company, ChimneyTek. Their prices are reasonable, they take the time to point out issues and explain things, and they're very professional. I'll continue to use their services and recommend them to anyone. <br />"

"Eric and his team did an amazing job repointing cracks throughout our stone house. They rebuilt a badly damaged and previously poorly repaired, repeatedly poorly repaired, portion of the wall outside the garage that now looks like new. They replaced a rusting and failing lintel over a diamond leaded glass window that is important to us and it looks amazing. You cannot tell at all where any of this work has been done, the house looks like new, you would never know where repairs have been done. The front path and stairs look new! Neighbors have stopped by to complement the work. Eric was easy to get a hold of and very responsive to any questions about the process. It took a while to schedule, but that is because they do meticulous, perfectionist work. They are worth the wait! The prices are very fair also, particularly given the time, work, and skill level involved."

"Called Dave to inspect and repair chimney of 40-year-old house after home inspection stated that both chimney and furnace flu needed re-lining and chimney to be rebuilt from roof-line on up to the tune of thousands of dollars.  Dave inspected the chimney and found that the chimney flu did not need re-lining and the chimney could be repaired & weatherproofed, rather than rebuilt - this saved us money and maintained the rustic charm of the existing chimney.  He was very thorough in his inspection and taught us everything we would need to know about chimney maintenance, safety and structure.  His partner, Ken, did a masterful job of repairing our chimney - he replaced the individual bricks with aged ones, then sealed/waterproofed the brickwork - our chimney is safe and maintains its' charming appearance.   He also re-lined the furnace flu and placed the chimney cap.  Dave returned to replace our worn-out fireplace damper and cleaned our chimney.  Although the price for each service was a little on the higher side of other estimates, his creativity and knowledge of alternative fixes saved us money in the long run, and the quality of the work was well worth the price charged."

"Capitol came out on time, and a nice gentleman named Abraham and a helper came out to give an estimate for the work. He spent about 45 minutes looking around, and to my surprise, issued a bid on the spot. The bid was reasonable and actually included a full rebuild of one chimney from scratch, including building a firebox. I was really tempted because the two other bids I received wanted to sell me a prebuilt firebox at considerable cost (almost nobody hand-builds fireboxes anymore, it seems), and I liked the idea of getting a brand new chimney as I had lots of brick damage from years of thermal cycling. However, the risk is much higher in buying this type of work because your chimney performance is completely tied to the company's ability to properly design a replacement chimney and build it properly in all its details. So, I asked for a portfolio to see their rebuild work--i.e., not repairs, but work where they had fully rebuilt chimneys, They sent a few jobs with perhaps a couple of "after" photos each, which did not engender confidence that they were proud of their work. I would think a big chimney rebuild should have had all kinds of process photos, pictures of the firebox, etc. So, I asked for two references who had rebuilds done who could vouch for the work, and that was the last I heard from this company over a week ago. So, I'm not entirely confident that their full rebuild customers are happy, given I haven't seen a single review on this website for a large job like mine. As tempted as I am to take their reasonable offer, I am not entirely sure they can do a full rebuild I would be happy with. Not having a portfolio and no references is not a good sign."
