"Our gas fireplace insert was not working consistently. The technicians came and took measurements and gave options for returning to an open wood burning fire or a wood burning insert. They removed the gas insert and from their information, I know I need a wood burning fireplace insert. They also cleaned the fireplace and flue system. Excellent work! I will re-hire them to repair the brickwork, crown and flashing."

"Joe and his team were great. Got this pretty big job done in one day and did a great job of cleaning up. Chimney looks great. It's a big chimney and they replaced around 300 bricks, repaired cement and mortar, and painted the crowns and brought them up to code to prevent this kind of water damage again. Joe was even able to match the bricks exactly. He found them in St. Cloud and drove to get them for me. So, it's a perfect match. Highly recommended. These guys were the best and quickest about getting a quote too, which was no easy task in the summer. Attached image is partially done. Don't have a good picture handy of final product, but you can tell they do solid professional work."

"From the very beginning, Jamie Shea was easy to work and very personable. He helped us pick the right color and proper stone to update the look of the fireplace. Once we selected the stone, Jamie made a site visit to measure the fireplace and walk us through the process. From the day we signed the contract to the date of the install, he was prompt and courteous. The mason crew Jamie works with, were prompt, courteous and did outstanding work. We couldn’t be happier with the finished project. The fireplace is a now beautiful focal point in our living room. I would highly recommend Fireside Hearth and Home. And if you are lucky enough to work with Jamie Shea, you will very be pleased with his positive, can do attitude."

"The top of the chimney in our 1950's house was spalling badly. The brick was crumbling because there was no drip edge and water went right down the brick. The roof to brick interface started leaking into the house. We got lucky, because Joe and his crew were working in the area. He came out the same day to assess the project and the crew was at work the next day! We were stunned that they got started so quickly. One of our main concerns was making sure the repaired brick matched the existing. When they tore down the chimney, they kept as many of the good bricks as possible. The repair matches almost perfectly. The crew was quick, friendly, and professional."

"We had an old gas fireplace we hadn't used in years, and had them come out to check and clean it before we tried it.  Luckily, no surprises, and everything fired up just fine, and works great.

"Nick's Chimney were wonderful. They figured out what was the actual cause of our crumbling flue and fixed it, for less than another company wanted to just repair, but to solve the problem."

"It all went okay until I found out they did not have a finish carpenter to complete the fireplace mantle. I have granite tile surround and I had an email from them saying they didn't have a finish guy. I sent a reply saying I was surprised they didn't, and wondered if this was something that didn't come up much. I also asked if they had a different suggestion for finishing it, or if they proposed not taking on the job, No reply to email and 2 weeks later I got a phone call saying perhaps they could help me figure it out. Didn't go with that company,"

"I love the fireplace that they installed. They are very professional and they are very warm with the customers. They did a very good job with the installation. They taught me how to use the system and they even referred me to an interior decorator."

"The Envision team did a great job with our fireplaces! We had an electric and a gas fireplace installed, repair work on the roof and a wood burning fireplace fixed. They’re a busy team, but they did great work while they were here."

FAQs for brick or stone fireplace repair projects in Minneapolis, MN

Permit requirements for fireplace insert removal vary by location and project scope. While removing an electric insert rarely requires permits, gas insert removals often do because they involve modifications to gas lines. Some municipalities also require permits for changes to structural elements or venting systems. Check with your local building department before beginning your project. Professional fireplace services typically handle permit acquisition as part of their package.

Removing a fireplace insert can potentially impact your home's value. Since fireplaces are desirable features in many housing markets, removing an insert (especially if it eliminates the fireplace's functionality) might negatively affect your property value. If you're planning to sell your home soon, consider keeping the fireplace intact. For homeowners planning to stay long-term, the potential energy efficiency gains from removing an inefficient fireplace might outweigh future resale considerations.

The time required to remove a fireplace insert depends on several factors, including the type of insert, its installation complexity, and whether structural modifications are needed. Professional removal services can typically complete the job in a single day, though complex situations involving gas lines, electrical work, or structural changes may require additional time. Your removal specialist should provide a time estimate based on your specific situation.

Many fireplace inserts contain recyclable materials, particularly metal components that can be processed at scrap facilities. Working inserts in good condition, especially wood-burning models, might have resale value. Before disposal, consider checking with recycling centers, architectural salvage shops, or online marketplaces to explore options for giving your old insert a second life. This approach can be both environmentally responsible and potentially offset some of your removal costs.
