Customers say: Quick response

"Rob responded immediately to the Angie's list request. We made an appointment and he showed up on time. He immediately went to work and explained what he was doing when I asked him. He was very careful to put on slippers to replace his boots. He also laid a tarp to keep the dust from dirtying the fireplace hearth. He quickly assessed the ignition problem and fixed it. ($150) He then moved to rapidly clean the dryer vent ($140). He was professional throughout. I will hire him again."

"Work was performed as scheduled.  I authorized work to be done when I was not home so I cannot comment actual visit.  Mortar/brick repair was done as requested.  Slight differences in mortar color probably due to age of existing mortar.  I will have to see how it ages out.

We had 3 bids all through Angie's List, one of the companies Granite Outlet II that  we had used before. The other two bids were from Solid Stone Fab. and KAT Fab

Most of the bids were similar, except all of the companies provided different prices for removal, sink cutout, plumbing for rehook-up of sink, and rehooking up stove top.

Granite Outlet II had a plumber in-house. Solid Stone had a recommendation for a plumber and KAT didn't provide a recommendation.

We kept our backslash and KAT was the only company that had an issue with cutting it down if needed. And it was cut to allow for the quartz.

We chose Solid Stone Fabricators because we trusted Claudia to do a good job for us. She was very attuned to our needs and anytime we asked her a question if she didn't already know it she got right back with us. She took good notes and made sure we were getting exactly what we wanted. She was very professional and a pleasure to work with. We went to see the where the countertops were fabricated at Solid Stone and we also went to Cambria Quartz in Carrollton and looked at the Quartz we wanted and received large samples there.

They came out and measured and showed up on time, then we scheduled for the install.

The installers showed up at their scheduled time and finished in less then 5 hours. The next morning the plumber came and hooked the sink and stove back up.

Claudia came out a few days later and bought us our extra quartz. its VERY heavy but we wanted to keep it and they also made us a cutting board.

I LOVE MY COUNTERTOPS AND NEW GRANITE SINK!

"Small coolant check in 11 year old AC unit which will be need to be replaced. The coolant was low but the price of Freon is expensive. The coupon from Angie's list included 2 units or lbs of coolant which we neither asked for nor received from the tech. Will definitely use this company for future needs."

"Another company said "you should just buy a new air conditioner" after charging $350.00 for troubleshooting the system and adding 1 lb of Freon, based on the fact that it is a 13 years old air conditioner.
I called Chill Out, because of their "deal" on a new 3 ton ac. It was substantially below the quote from the other company.
Bryce took the time to evaluate my system and instead of just jumping on selling me a new one, suggested I just go with a new circuit card instead of replacing my air conditioner...his quote on the repair was A LOT LESS THAN the other company quoted. The system is working perfectly!
He was really a pleasure to work with! I will most certainly call him when I need air conditioner service!

"Derek called to tell me he'd be late.  When he got here, we went through the list of things I was hoping he could do, and he was able to tell me how long each project would take, and whether it was worthwhile or not (for instance, I had bought a new ceiling fan for my daughter's room, but he told me it was awfully small, and rather than install the new one, he was able to fix the old one).
I was very pleased with his knowledge, his work, his friendliness.  I will definitely use this company again.

FAQs for brick or stone fireplace repair projects in Austin, TX

Permit requirements for fireplace insert removal vary by location and project scope. While removing an electric insert rarely requires permits, gas insert removals often do because they involve modifications to gas lines. Some municipalities also require permits for changes to structural elements or venting systems. Check with your local building department before beginning your project. Professional fireplace services typically handle permit acquisition as part of their package.

Removing a fireplace insert can potentially impact your home's value. Since fireplaces are desirable features in many housing markets, removing an insert (especially if it eliminates the fireplace's functionality) might negatively affect your property value. If you're planning to sell your home soon, consider keeping the fireplace intact. For homeowners planning to stay long-term, the potential energy efficiency gains from removing an inefficient fireplace might outweigh future resale considerations.

The time required to remove a fireplace insert depends on several factors, including the type of insert, its installation complexity, and whether structural modifications are needed. Professional removal services can typically complete the job in a single day, though complex situations involving gas lines, electrical work, or structural changes may require additional time. Your removal specialist should provide a time estimate based on your specific situation.

Many fireplace inserts contain recyclable materials, particularly metal components that can be processed at scrap facilities. Working inserts in good condition, especially wood-burning models, might have resale value. Before disposal, consider checking with recycling centers, architectural salvage shops, or online marketplaces to explore options for giving your old insert a second life. This approach can be both environmentally responsible and potentially offset some of your removal costs.
