Hurricane Home Solutions is a local, family owned and operated, company committed to meeting the needs of home owners in our area. We offer installation and service on Backup Generators and Water Treatment Services. Our expert technicians specialize in Home Standby Generators and Water Treatment Systems. We offer the best products from brands like Cummins, Water Right, and A.O. Smith Specialized Water Solutions. With licensed electricians and plumbers, we are able to complete nearly all installations within a single day, without the need for subcontracting.

"They were fantastic! They were polite, fast, organized, good clean up, and explained everything. The quality of the generator looks durable, and could last longer. They are the only company who told me that the generator needed to be serviced for every 2 years instead of every year. They also installed it on a stoned pad instead of a concrete which saved me a lot of money. The piping inside of the house was a flexible steel coil. They also do service calls."

To collect a sample for a water quality test you can use an old 16 oz soda bottle, or similar container. Be sure to rinse the container thoroughly before collecting the sample and allow the water to run for about two minutes prior to filling your container. Bring your container in as soon as possible. If you can't bring it in immediately store it in the refrigerator. After 24 hours, you will need to take a new sample. New York State mandates that bacteria tests are to be done by a certified laboratory. We have bacteria test bottles on hand from Microbac Laboratories, Inc. (Monday through Friday) and Sullivan County Labs (Tuesday and Thursday) and samples are picked up at Beacon Water by their private couriers on the days noted at 1pm.

Owned & operated. Cost is determined by the job. Additional Phone (607) 732-7734.

"Our furnace broke down so we needed a repair. Cancer has devastated our finances so we had no choice but to finance with them. They said they still needed to fix one part for the heater to work & that they'd be back within two weeks to fix it. It's been over two weeks & they haven't returned. Now, their financing company made us sign something stating the job was substantially complete. It's not substantially complete. We paid to have the AC & heating updated & working. Only our AC works, as they haven't returned to finish the job, nor have they returned our calls regarding this matter. Steer clear. It looks like we're screwed, as we're locked in with them as they use Lennox products. So we paid $14k for a half completed job. They got their money & ran. They’re taking advantage of a disabled veteran with recurrent cancer."

FAQs for water treatment & purification system installation and replacement projects in Binghamton, NY

Water softeners consist of three main components: a mineral tank, a brine tank, and a control valve. In some smaller units, the mineral tank and brine tank are combined into one cabinet.

Professionals install whole-home systems at the point of entry of the main water line. Smaller units are installed under sinks or near a washer—these units only soften the water for that fixture, not the entire home.

  • Mineral Tank: Hard water passes into the mineral tank through resin beads, and an ion exchange occurs. Magnesium and calcium ions are exchanged for sodium or potassium ions from the brine tank.

  • Brine Tank: The brine tank contains sodium or potassium to recharge the resin.

  • Control Valve: The control valve determines when to clean the resin beads.

Choosing between a salt-based or potassium-based water softener depends on your priorities. Salt-based systems effectively remove hard-water minerals, regenerate efficiently, and are cost-effective. However, they may not be ideal for individuals on low-sodium diets. Potassium-based systems neutralize minerals without removing them and regenerate more frequently. They are more expensive but offer a healthier and more environmentally friendly option. If sodium levels are a concern and cost isn't a major factor, a potassium system may be the better choice.

To calculate your water softener's capacity, determine your grains per gallon (GPG) number by:

  • Multiplying the number of people in your home by 90. The average number of gallons used per person for washing, drinking, and cooking ranges from 80 to 100 gallons per day.

  • Multiplying that result by the hardness of your water. The average grains per gallon in the United States is 10 but can range from 0 to 17. You can find your GPG number by purchasing an at-home water testing kit.

Installing a water softener takes between two to four hours on average. The exact duration depends on the complexity of the unit and whether additional plumbing or electrical work is required. If modifications to existing pipes are necessary, installation may take longer. Preparing the installation area by clearing any obstructions can help streamline the process.

Water softeners can last up to 25 years with proper maintenance and care. The lifespan depends on the type and quality of the unit you choose. Single-tank electric water softeners may last around 12 years, while higher-quality models tend to last longer. Regular maintenance, such as routine inspections and timely replacement of salts or potassium, helps extend the life of your system. Most water softeners require minimal repairs over their lifespan.
