"The service was great. They were here on-time and got the lock fixed quickly then replaced it. They also gave me a new deadbolt due to the old one being rotted away. Great business would deff. Use them again."

"<p>Our inside entrance door to the garage was frozen shut (lock had failed) and we could not use our door from inside the house to get out. I called Jim late in the day and he was able to come out that next day as per my request. Jim and his partner were most courteous and replaced the lever type door handle with one just like it. He also set all four locks on the entrance doors to match the new key and provided extra keys. Both men were a pleasure to deal with, very friendly, and completed the job in a very short time. I would not hesitate to use Jim's service again. Very trustworthy and the job was clean and quick. I definitely recommend this locksmith to all and I will definitely use him again.</p> <br />"

"Great service.  When I first called, Al spoke to me for almost 45 minutes about all the details of re-keying a door as well as the pluses and minuses of various locks.  He really helped to inform my decision.  Shortly thereafter, Joseph came out to do the estimate and install.  The whole process was finished in less than 24 hours.  Would most definitely use them again."

"An hour and a half after I called Amazing Lock, my problem was fixed. They even offered -- which I accepted -- to just repair the old lock rather than charge me the cost of a new one."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Chicago, IL

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
