I've dealt with Jeff on 4 previous occasions, once for plumbing repairs to my kitchen, once for a Water Heater install, once for a slow drip leak caused by a nail puncture done when the house was built over 30 years ago, and once for sudden break in a water line in the garage. Based on the quality and fair price for the work done in the past I chose Jeff to completely replace my existing polybutylene pipe with color-coded PEX. Included in the work was replacing almost all faucets, sinks, refrigerator and shower valves and fittings, washing machine valves, and toilets. Jeff did an outstanding job replacing all the plumbing, developing new routes that allowed me to isolate sections of the house in a manner similar to having home runs. During the planning stage,Jeff listened carefully to my requirements and proposed cost-effective solutions that saved me money and gave me what I really needed. "My 92 year old brother-in-law who has dementia hired Patterson to remove garbage disposal because it was not working and sink would not drain. He signed the estimate. An invoice was NOT provided for the family. He was charged $662.00 for a couple of hours of labor and a few plastic pipes. The new pipes leaked water all over the floor and another tech had to come repair the leak later. Senior financial rape is what I call it. Think twice before hiring!"

  • Multiplying that result by the hardness of your water. The average grains per gallon in the United States is 10 but can range from 0 to 17. You can find your GPG number by purchasing an at-home water testing kit.

Installing a water softener takes between two to four hours on average. The exact duration depends on the complexity of the unit and whether additional plumbing or electrical work is required. If modifications to existing pipes are necessary, installation may take longer. Preparing the installation area by clearing any obstructions can help streamline the process.

Water softeners can last up to 25 years with proper maintenance and care. The lifespan depends on the type and quality of the unit you choose. Single-tank electric water softeners may last around 12 years, while higher-quality models tend to last longer. Regular maintenance, such as routine inspections and timely replacement of salts or potassium, helps extend the life of your system. Most water softeners require minimal repairs over their lifespan.
