"The locksmith did a good job of changing out a door hardware and adding a deadbolt. He was professional and the charge for the service was reasonable. I do believe the company could work on their communication with customers when there is going to be a delay in the locksmith would arrive. "

"It went great. Bruce called me to say that he could get out there that afternoon, which was fine since I couldn't get out there with a key to the house until after work. I asked Bruce if he absolutely needed me to give him a key to the house, and he said no, he could just rekey the locks and leave the keys in the garage for me to pick up later. I got a call a couple of hours later saying the job was done...couldn't have gone any easier."

"They gave me a price of $74 over the phone and the technician changed it to $124 when he showed up. It was for a small mailbox rekeying. I?ll never use them or recommend them again. I also find it interesting that on their review pages they just show only the 5 star reviews."

"I contacted Michael's owner, John Lemmon, who couldn't have been nastier and accused me of threatening him with legal action when leaving a message for him with an employee the day before. I had not done so. In a menacing tone, he said he would reimburse me for the rekeying, and "then we're through.""

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Dallas, TX

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
