"CHI did an exceptional job replacing windows and a storm door. The cluster of 7 windows is in a brick-cladded wall, with curved oak trim on the interior. The result is beautiful--the new trim matches perfectly. What most impressed us was how careful and thorough everyone was. The crew worked together to come up with the best way to handle problems. For example, the storm door hardware didn't fit right, so they came back an extra morning to modify the wood framing. Overall, they did what was needed to get a good result."

"The Olson Brick crew did a great job. The owner Tim explained throughly what needed to be done, and his crew back it up with quality work. He was quick to respond to questions and give us samples. He and his crew were friendly and with the exception of the new chimney you would never even now that they were there - great site cleanup. Price was fair as well. Would definitely hire again"

"He was amazing! He handled the typical snags along the way and stuck through the job to the end even after unexpected issues. We hired Adam to lay a lower patio and fire pit, along the way it was discovered that the original plan required the fire pit to be further away from the house than originally laid out, but he handled it with the local fire department to identify a compromise that was acceptable for the layout I was looking for. With that past us, it was also discovered that our deck footings needed replacing, but that turned into needing to replace the ENTIRE deck (typical home improvement). However, Adam was patient and adjusted to the delays and hiccups with us. He was very easy to work with and did top quality work. We LOVE our new patio and continue to enjoy the bon fires in our fire pit!
"

"Terry and his crew are top notch. They are efficient - took 9 days to take down the 2 and rebuild. Work site was cleaned each day. Terry is an artist and a mason. Go see the chimneys on his list of references to get a sense of the artistry he can add to a house. My 85 year old house got an unplanned refresh with the new chimneys.
"

"Robert was extremely professional, very easy to work with, and the quality of his work is outstanding. This Spring we had a severe water leak in the basement as the snow started to melt (followed by rain) and we asked him to come at as soon as his schedule allowed. He contacted us immediately when another appointment was cancelled and arranged to come to our house earlier than originally planned. He arrived spot on time, assessed the situation thoroughly, made several helpful suggestions, and then got straight to work on the core crack repair. Despite further melting and now almost 8 days of straight rain, the basement has been bone-dry and we couldn't be more satisfied. He really exceeded our expectations even from professional services and we highly recommend him to anyone needing similar work done.
"

"

I received an estimate on my chimney after having some stucco fall off due to deteriorating brick behind the stucco on my 1929 home. My options were to repair the brick either only as far as the water had damaged it, or to do a full tear down and rebuild of the chimney. I opted to go with the full tear down and rebuild

The work started on my house a couple weeks after deciding which repair to do. I shared with Mike my design ideas prior to the work starting and he pointed out some additional details that would make my chimney really stand out. Since the job was a rather major job, he ended up working with his former business partner at Bjugstad Masonry, who also happened to be named Mike.

The Mike's (as they became known as at my home) were incredibly professional. They were always both at my house between 6:30-7:00 AM daily and would typically stay until between 5:00-6:00 PM. They would get everything ready so when 8:00 hit, if they had to make noise, they were ready to go. They always cleaned up at the end of the day as if they were never there and also took very good care of my home when weather hit during the project.

As they were going through the rebuild of the chimney, they were very easy to talk with about design ideas as either they would think of something that would look nice, or if I had something specific that I wanted to see. They rolled with EVERY idea I tossed at them and gave me their ideas that would make my idea stand out even more. Adding to the detail, I had a chimulator installed for one of my fireplaces and they noticed that one chimney cap was stainless steel and the other was black. They insisted that they match and searched the town for another stainless chimney cap to match my chimulator. Who would have known that it would be tough to find a plain stainless chimney cap?!?

I am so incredibly happy with the work these guys did. Their attention to detail, explanation of the process, and willingness to do extras that I would ask for were incredible. These guys are true artists and amazingly hard workers! I would recommend them for any masonry job and already have been referring them. This has to have been the best construction experience that I have ever had while owning a home. They made my old home a true focal point on the block.
"

"Dan and his crew were thoroughly professional at every step, from providing a range of samples of replacement bricks to problem solving about a installing a new drainage pipe, to the brick by brick design and installation. They were very careful about protecting garden plants and shrubs adjacent to the walkways and cleaned up thoroughly after each day's work. We were very happy with the final appearance of the new walks.
"

"Kevin promptly returned call to do an estimate and stopped by next day. Gave me different options to resolve issue of leaves, mice getting into the garage due to old, cracked, uneven floor/apron. Decided to just do the apron as a full garage floor was more expensive. Received an estimate from another Angie's list contractor - it was much higher and I liked that EZ Masonry was doing work in the neighborhood already - local.
Work began quickly - a 1 1/2 weeks later. Finished quickly in 2 days (even though smaller job for them). The crew was very professional and careful in my yard, and garage. They put a tarp to catch concrete dust during demolition and cleaned up very well. They lined up the carriage walk carefully too. I was most impressed when one of the workers asked if he could smoke on the job site - very consider to ask!"

"Having done many repair and improvement projects over the years on our previous and very old house (1893), we had experienced a lot of frustration dealing with incompetent, indifferent, and often sloppy contractors. Even if the contractors were competent, they often cut corners in order to save themselves time on the job. In most cases we had to watch over them like hawks to try to get a quality finished product, but neither of us have sufficient knowledge or experience in home repair and improvement to be effective supervisors. We always felt very vulnerable when dealing with contractors. We experienced these frustrations even though we did not always select the low bid contractor. Most of these projects occurred in the ?dark ages?, when reviews and ratings about contractors were not readily available. Even word of mouth recommendations did not always prove to be reliable. Thus, we know what it can be like dealing with bad contractors.
To try and avoid these problems for our recent house remodeling project, we decided to give Angie?s List a try. This winter we purchased a 3,000 sf house (originally built in 1914) that was uninhabitable. It had been gutted with some plumbing and electrical rough-in, but it needed a lot of work. It wasn?t a straight-forward project for anyone to take on because some of the re-work had been started, and then the house sat empty for two years. We essentially needed an entire house remodel (interior) and a little exterior work as well (stucco and railings). This was a big job that needed a contractor who could do the job right within a reasonable time frame and have the expertise and experience to deal with all aspects of rebuilding a 100-year old house.
After all of this research, we selected Redstone Builders. They seemed like decent, intelligent guys when we first met them. They made us feel at ease about the magnitude of the project and their ability to complete it in a timely manner. We quickly developed a sense that they were the right people for us to work with. From our past experiences with other contractors who also ?seemed? great, however, our optimism about Redstone was mixed with fear that we would eventually run into the kinds of problems we?d had with previous contractors. However, we could not have been more wrong.
Our faith in home remodeling contractors has been restored. They finished the project on time (14 weeks) and only slightly over budget. The quality exceeded our expectations. We firmly believe that Dan wanted the house to look better than we did, and it does. He is a perfectionist with a fine attention to detail. They are honest, competent, and experienced contractors who have high standards of quality and workmanship. True to their word, they started on the day they said they would, and had workmen (sometimes a house-full) there nearly every single day (weekends were no exception) working on the project until it was completed. We never had to wonder what was going on or if someone was going to show up on a given day. We never felt like they were trying to cut corners, rip us off, or pull the wool over our eyes. They were always responsive with questions or concerns that we raised. They were never condescending, rude or impatient. It was an enjoyable process to work with them to transform the gutted mess that we bought into a beautiful, restored home that we are excited to live in and proud to show off.
Every single room of the house needed extensive work, including: the 3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, foyer, 1st floor family room, 2 full bathrooms, 1st first-floor half bath with laundry room, and the 3rd floor playroom/family room. The list of tasks they completed is great and included: finish the framing, complete the heating system, complete the plumbing rough-in, complete the electrical system, foam insulation, skim coat all plaster walls, sheetrock and taping of new walls, tile work, refinish original wood floors, install new wood floors, strip and refinish original woodwork, install central air (high velocity) system, install cabinets, install granite counters, install light fixtures, install plumbing fixtures, install exterior railings, and have the top or finish coat of stucco applied. The original wood floors, window seat, buffet, bannister, doors and endless wood trim that had been covered by coats of paint or grimy stain were all restored to stunning condition. They also found a unique subcontractor to restore our beautiful but neglected nearly 100-year old front door and create a stained glass window for it that matched others in the house. Thus, we were able to maintain the character of an old house with all of the woodwork and built-ins that we were seeking, but add modern amenities such as central AC and an owner?s suite to make for more comfortable living. We firmly believe that Redstone did more than was originally promised and consistently erred on the side of exceeding expectations.
A great asset of Redstone is that they are well-connected with an experienced group of sub-contractors who are used to working together and with Bob and Dan. All of the subcontractors were very competent and eager to do the job right. We cannot say enough good things about the subs.
Dan and Bob are easy to talk with and work with and are knowledgeable builders. They smartly included time with an interior designer in the budget, which proved very helpful in tile selections and layouts, room configurations, and paint selections. Redstone did not provide the absolute lowest total bid, but when you carefully examine the package, you realize that the allowances (for granite, tile, flooring, etc.) Bob includes are very generous. In our case, the only exception was light fixtures, where lack of a detailed inventory of needed fixtures and some higher end selections on our part resulted in a few thousand over the allowance. The entire project came in only slightly over budget (4 %) and mostly because of change orders requested by us including a custom dinette table with freestanding bench and additional granite in the laundry room. So in fact, if you desire a quality finished product with high-end finishes, the final total for a Redstone job may actually prove to be lowest in the end. Also, Dan and Bob do not disappear when the final payment is received. They are very concerned that you are completely satisfied. Dan has been back on a few occasions with some of the subs to check and repair a few minor issues and to do paint touchups.
Furthermore, as we were preparing our old house for sale, Bob and Dan offered to help if needed by arranging for subs to work at the house with no markup on their part. After an inspection revealed a leaky shower pan (as a result of shoddy work by previous contractors), we contacted Dan and Bob and they responded just as they had promised. Dan was on the scene with their tile sub within a day or so and figured out a plan to tear out and replace the pan and the affected tile. Dan has taken several trips to the house during the demo and repair just to make sure things are going ok. Dan and Bob are sincere and keep their word. They are the best. We cannot recommend Redstone Builders highly enough. I imagine that if you consulted with their prior clients, they all would be willing to hire them again. We are no exception, as we plan to hire them to build a new garage.
We aren?t ones to typically write reviews of a company. We?ve just never felt strongly enough one way or the other to do so. However, in this case, our experience with them was so positive and we think so highly of them, that we wanted to do what we could to endorse them. If you want a job that is done right, done to exacting standards and done with the least amount of pain possible, then hire Redstone. They are that good."

"We were in serious need to fix our leaking flat roof on our attached garage, as well as replacement of the rails and exterior staircase which were in disrepair and unsafe. Mark and Cristian gave us a quote and were able to get the crew to work, my concern was before the snow and they made it happen! Once spring came the new garage door got installed and new gutter and downspout on the back which looks great. The new cedar stairs and rails are now safe and we can't wait to use our new deck this summer! We would recommend working with Northrup!"
