"I am reviewing Embers West's installation of a Mendota FV44 sealed combustion gas insert (combustion air comes from outside & fumes vent to the outside). The product has a remote with a thermostat & ability to control the flame height, circulating blower speed & a dimmable halogen light. There is electric ignition (no standing pilot flame) & a battery-pack to light the flame in case of a power outage. If you're in the market for a gas fireplace, look no further. Save your time and come here first. You'll be glad you did. We chose Embers West because they had the highest Yelp rating of the several local fireplace businesses (well-deserved - with over 3 dozen reviews). My wife & I had researched gas fireplace inserts online before calling EW & were partial to the Mendota brand. When we met with Francois Tiab (owner & chief technical person), I provided photos & measurements of our 1955 brick fireplace; he agreed that Mendota was our best choice. Francois impressed us enough that we saw no need to check out any other businesses (so I can't comment on his pricing versus others). He was personable, professional & extremely knowledgeable & we enjoyed working with him. Francois made it clear at the start that our project needed several visits from them but I did not ask for a schedule; the project took 3 months & cost a bit over $8k (actually $500 less than the quote- Serryn (office manager) emailed us to say Mendota was having a sale- we would not have known otherwise). If your project needs to be completed quickly - then you should discuss that with Francois up-front. A few times, I had to call to find out the status - Serryn got us an answer right away each time (also when I had tech questions). The installation encountered a snag & Francois quickly resolved it. This is all normal for custom work. The gas line & electrical connection were installed before EW started. Mario was the installer & he was great (friendly, punctual, took time to do things right, brought tarps to protect the carpet & wore protective booties over his shoes). He used a "sniffer" to check for gas leaks. Payments were easily handled online via their website. Their showroom had sample installations to help select finishes & the artificial logs. The finished job looks great & I'm very happy with the results. I definitely recommend Embers West."

"I met with a lot of fireplace companies before I settled on Chimney Safety Experts. It was a great call in the end. To begin, Hugo, who was the man you came out to see the job and bid it, was always available when I called him. (I like other companies. ) Had endless patience with my questions and was sweet and polite throughout. He was also very knowledgeable, honest, and really gave a **** about my job. Which was not a huge non or small either. I had the entire firebox redone as well as completely redone smoke chamber and total chimney (inside ) adding an upper exterior damper, Redoing the spark Arrestor, and the chimney crown. The two guys that did all that work were Brainer and Moses. (I can’t attest to anyone else in the company since I haven’t experienced their work). But I can say Brainer and Moses are FANTASTIC at their job. Almost Artists. They were unbelievably clean — given the demo job I’m not even sure how they accomplished that. The job they did and care they took with the redo of the entire chimeny and fire box was amazing. They have been doing this work a long time and like Hugo, care about what they do. I can highly recommend them! And the price was very reasonable compared to some of the other companies I spoke to. You can’t go wrong with this team."

"I've used Avalin Design Construction Co. for at least two jobs on our properties, including one seismic retrofit. Both times, Fred and his team have done an outstanding job from start to finish. They came to our house to do the estimates for free and provided them in a timely manner with a detailed description of what they’d be doing. The work crews executed the tasks to perfection, and Fred also took care of all the required permits. For the seismic retrofit project, they even handled all the documentation required by EBB. They are simply awesome, and I highly recommend them."

"I was referred to Ralph Byrne from my Fireplace store where I purchased my fireplace unit. They also gave me the names of several different independent contractors. Also I searched “yelp” for the same type of contractors. After meeting and interviewing several different companies. I determined that “fireplace improvements” was the best company for my needs. Of course, the bid/price was most important for my uLtimate decision. However; Ralph was the consummate professional. His knowledge, expertise and experience was quickly noticed from the very first day of the rebuild. Just for disclosure, I was also doing a full condo remodel at the same time. I have heard that different contractors clash or butt heads during a build but that really was never an issue. The only issue that I had was from the city! The City (The building and planning division) in there infinite wisdom, postponed my plans to finish my remodel Approximately 3-4 months late. But all said and done, the rebuild of my fireplace came out beautifully! I could not be happier! Ralph was such a pleasure to work with, He was always on time, he never skimped on the quality of materials and was always fair on his pricing. He never added to his original bid to bump up the price (Many contractors always add to the original contract) but, Ralph never did. He was always neat and tidy. Putting away and cleaning after leaving my Job site. On top of everything, he is a very kind and understanding individual. He listened to my concerns and always delivered what he had promised. "From the first contact about this job through the completion of the wall through clean up, We couldn't have asked for more. The start time had to be put off a number of times and office staff was helpful, supportive, and patient. The crew took care of our neighbors' trees and garden, as well as the raised garden bed in our yard and grown Magnolia tree. The removal of the old wall was done efficiently and carefully. The new wall is well constructed with good footing and steel, and finished with colored, smooth plaster."
