"I was quoted $200 for a replacement key fob. I was charged $388. I was very clear about what I needed when I set-up the appointment, including the car model, make and year. I was quoted for a Mazda part and I was quoted for a generic part. I was told the only difference would be the logo. I chose the generic. i was left with a key fob that does not have a button for the tail gate, does not lock and unlock doors and stopped working after 1 day. The technician also kept pressuring me to purchase an additional key fob. I told him I do not have money, and he suggested I have someone transfer me the money. I called XPRO over 3 hours ago and have heard nothing about a technician coming to fix the problem. Thanks for the recommendation, Angi."

"The company was prompt in coming out the same day I called, They do good work as I have used them in the past, my only concern is they seemed to be a little pricey, charging $200.00 dollars to change out two locks."

"I highly recommend Paul for any home renovation project! He has done numerous projects over the years at our house in Mequon which include a full kitchen renovation, tv mounting on brick fireplace, and exterior cedar siding repairs. During the kitchen remodel Paul showed up timely and worked hard for 6 weeks straight. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Paul is friendly and delivers high quality work for a fair price."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Milwaukee, WI

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
