"We closed on a new house on the morning of June 29, so we were eager to get new door locks installed as quickly as possible.  The first locksmith we tried on June 28 was not available until July 9, so we called Accurate Locksmith, which was several miles farther away from our place.  Rob told us that they would be able to do it on the afternoon of June 29, which was ideal.  Chris came promptly at 3:30 as scheduled.  Before installing the new lock, he noticed that the door was sticking, so he adjusted the door jamb and side molding to permit easier opening and closing.  Since we were also considering replacing the old door, he made some specific recommendations on types of doors that would work well, even though his firm doesn't provide them.  His work was completed in about 45 minutes, and we had a nice chat about the area while he was working.  The lock and door are still working beautifully about four weeks after the job was completed, so we are quite satisfied.  Chris was competent, courteous and friendly.  He helped make us feel welcome in our new home."

"They were able to schedule a locksmith within a couple hours.  He came promptly, had with him a part that needed replacing even though the lock is not standard, and was friendly and courteous. <br />"

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Staten Island, NY

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
