"When I was locked out of my home I search on google for a local locksmith. Contacted Mr. Dominick from Safeguard locks, he is a very professional locksmith, punctual and charged me fairly. Before I decided to hire him I also contacted two other locksmith companies in Norwalk Ct but I decided to hire Mr. Dominick because his knowledge gave me confidence that he could do the job right. I was right, he was very respectful of my home, explain in details the job and the cost.. no surprises. If you live in Norwalk Connecticut or Fairfield County and you need a licensed locksmith for your home, car or truck look no further than Safeguard locks and ask for Mr. Dominick, he is truly the best locksmith I have ever worked with."

"We made an appointment so our front door lock mechanism could be checked and repaired. The locksmith explained to my wife that because the steel door and lock mechanism were effectively a unit, it would be less expensive to replace the front door. I appreciated the fact that we got a clear, honest, and quick answer so we could proceed appropriately. Excellent service, and we'll remember Able for our future needs. <br />"

"My husband and I just purchased a new home, so we hired Jake the Locksmith to replace all the locks on the house (the originals of which were all different). We also could not access the garage because we were not provided a key for it by the sellers, so he was able to access the garage and replace that lock, too. We were able to get a Saturday appointment (a huge plus) and our locksmith showed up on time, was professional, and did a great job. <br />"

"Needed to have several doors re-keyed for my daughter's new home. Had terrible experience with another "locksmith" and did not use them. Called West Hartford Lock, my husband spoke with the office manage, Kathy Cerruto. Could not have been nicer, more professional, or more helpful. Someone went to my daughter's a few days later and re-keyed several locks in not too much time. VERY reasonable. Would absolutely recommend and use them again."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Stratford, CT

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
