"He was timely to respond to make appointment, but we had a failure to communicate about the actual time. I had to request he mask. He did not cover the carpet nor wear shoe covers. There was drilling required so a bit of a mess. I had to touch up door paint from a couple dings and large area of chipped paint. The work was completed and the installation price reasonable, except for the cost to key the locks- $30 each, which I feel is high. Ace is $13 and another locksmith is $23 each."

"Scott is very responsive, courteous, and professional  I have 6 locking entry doors into my home.  That's 12 locks total.  He walked through the house with me and suggested which locks should be re-keyed immediately.  He gave me advice on which doors to re-key to avoid any lockout situations.  My home was a bank-owned property and Scott understood how many people may have had access to the property, and gave me solid guidance. Scott's vehicle is a rolling locksmith shop.  He took all the lock-sets out to his car and retooled them there. I thought that was very considerate and detail-oriented.  I highly recommend him. <br />"

"I locked myself out of my house around dinnertime on a Saturday evening.  The first locksmith I called said he couldn't come because he was at a family event.  So, he gave me two referrals.  The second locksmith didn't return my call.  The third locksmith wanted to charge $175, and told me it would be an 1.5 hour wait.  The fourth locksmith was Harold at Elite, who agreed to come right away for $95.  He indicated that he was coming from Schaumburg so it was a 45 minute wait.  But after he arrived, it only took him 10 minutes to pick the lock.  Hooray. Time to give one of my neighbors a spare key!"

"Keymasters Security Solutions provided excellent service from start to finish. We received a very quick response to our service request. The work was done very efficiently and in a professional manner. Replacement parts were of the highest quality — much better than the malfunctioning handleset and deadbolt that was in place. We highly recommend Keymasters Security Solutions."

"We purchased a deal through Angie's for $140 and thought we would be able to get the work done at that price. However, because we had different locks on the doors, etc, it cost an additional $380. There were 2 locksmiths who arrived with, what I would call, a locksmith/hardware store in a van. They were very professional and made sure we understood why what we originally wanted wouldn't work and why what would work did. We would use the company again."

"We needed someone who was responsive and reasonably priced, and did an Internet search. <br /> After talking to several locksmiths, I decided to meet with Tom as he seemed to be ready to do the work and his phone estimate sounded reasonable.Tom came in his fully stocked van and began working almost immediately. <br /> He did a great job switching out a number of locks, putting all of them on a master key, and making copies for me. Before he left I checked all the keys with the locks and they all worked. <br /> Very happy with Tom's performance and have used him and referred him to others."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Schaumburg, IL

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
