"It went well. Good communication. Arrived when he said he would. Shared a picture and was given several options and an estimate from best case to worse case scenario. Appreciate the candor. The gentleman was able to remove the key and had I had a spare that would have been the lowest cost solution, but in the end I had him replace the cylinder. They replaced it with the model I requested which is about a $110 unit if I picked it up myself. Took about 20 mins and I was back inside. He cleaned up, vacuumed and was professional and good spirited throughout. I would hire White's Locksmith again."

"Long story short, I lost my "smart key" for my 2007 Toyota Camry. My car starts from a "Start" button, but the keyless remote needs to be in my bag or in my hand for the car to start. I initially went to the Toyota dealership in Hempstead, NY to see what the cost would be to replace my smart key. The rude idiots at Toyota informed me it would cost $600 to replace the smart key remote, to laser cut the emergency key (only allows access to open driver side door, not start car), the chip, and for my car to be reprogrammed to match the new smart key replacement. After almost having a stroke from hearing it would cost $600 I googled other options. All my searches concluded I was stuck with having to pay the dealership $600 to replace my smart key because many locksmiths according to my searches will not have all the proper equipment to reprogram my car... <br /> I came across Merrick Master Locksmiths INC. website and noticed it said they are able to cut and program most automotive keys and remotes, and have the current equipment needed to reprogram. I figured I had nothing to lose so I called them..BEST DECISION EVER. They were friendly, professional, and best of all said they were able to replace smart key and reprogram my car for $395.00. <br /> The day my smart key arrived to their location (they ordered to part for me) Merrick Master Locksmith Inc. drove to my car's location (Toyota wanted me to have the car towed to the dealership), and reprogrammed my car. It works perfectly! <br /> I am SO HAPPY I went here instead of Toyota. They saved me money and the hassle of dealing with Toyota dealership. I will definitely be returning to them for anything in the future, and I would HIGHLY recommend them. <br />"

"My appointment was at 6 pm but the technician did not show up until 730 pm. He did not call or notify us that he was running late, and he stated "he did not know the time of the appointment"  he also did not know what all was requested but once told began work immediately.  I could not get everything I wanted completed because he arrived so late.  I am not familiar with the cost of locksmiths, however two locks and 3 keys @135 dollars seems a bit steep. As a result I am not sure if will use again for remaining jobs, I hate sitting around waiting for service and not even be contacted that he was behind schedule and then showing up like "so what, i am late, what do you want completed".  It just does not sit well with me. <br />"

"Locksmith came, quickly accessed the situation, advised me of three options to address the problem including price estimates. Once every thing was explained, I made a choice and he proceeded to replace the broken latch with a different type of lock and knob. Very satisfied with the quality, promptness and professionalism of the locksmith."

FAQs for locksmith service projects in Island Park, NY

The installation timeframe varies based on door preparation and lock complexity. For doors already prepared with appropriate holes, installation might take 15 to 30 minutes. New installations requiring drilling take one to two hours. First-time DIY installers should allocate additional time to ensure proper alignment and function. Professional locksmiths complete standard installations efficiently due to their specialized tools and experience.

Most residential doors can accommodate deadbolts, but certain door types present challenges. Solid wood and fiberglass doors accept standard deadbolt hardware, while metal doors require specialized drilling equipment. Hollow-core interior doors lack the structural integrity to properly support deadbolts without additional reinforcement. Doors should be at least 1⅜ inches thick to properly house standard deadbolt mechanisms.

Door warranties remain valid when deadbolts are installed according to the manufacturer's guidelines. However, improper installation that damages the door structure might affect warranty coverage.

Before modifying any door under warranty, review the documentation for specific limitations or requirements regarding hardware installation. Some manufacturers provide templates or guidelines for acceptable lock placement to maintain warranty protection.

Rekeying offers a more economical alternative to complete replacement when you need to change access, but the lock mechanism remains in good condition. This process involves reconfiguring the internal pins to work with a new key while retaining the existing hardware. For homeowners with multiple locks, rekeying provides the convenience of using a single key for all entry points while maintaining security.
