"The repointing work was generally done well. Old mortar and bricks were removed and new bricks were installed. The craftsmanship was excellent. However, the color of the mortar used differed from that in the rest of the brickwork, so at present it stands out. Sixpenny said to wait a period and then re-evaluate whether any change should be made. I would rate this as an "A" but for the color difference in the mortar that was not expected. The chimney cap work was done well."

"The owner of Stone Depot, Nick Papas, offers hands on professional service.   I am a realtor, so great service is part of my professional standard and I appreciate it in others.  Nick was always available by phone and was very responsive.  I was nervous about selecting my granite, and I changed my mind at the last minute.   Nick was very gracious and allowed me to select another granite that I preferred. His team arrived for the installation on time and did an outstanding job.  The was a minor issue with caulking, and Nick sent someone out the next day to finish it off.  I could not be more happy with my granite and Stone Depot.  I was advised to personally select my slab of granite - which I did.  All granite is different, so that was good advice.  The location for selection was in Sterling VA, which was great for me since I live in VA.
I also checked out Counter Intelligence, but found the salesman was not very concerned and did not go the extra mile to get my business.  I  had to drive all the way to Silver Spring MD to look at samples of granite slabs.  That was to far to go.  Also, their price quote was higher.  The smaller company atmosphere at Stone Depot was a much better choice for me.  I highly recommend them!

"Vitaliy and his crew did nothing short of an excellent job re-lining my chimney for both the fireplace and the furnace and putting a new cap on the chimney top. He was clear in the work that needed to be done, provided an estimate that was cheaper than the competition, and his crew did a bang-up job; they unexpectedly had to rebuild part of the firebox when the old bricks crumbled, but didn't increase the fee for the work, and they even repointed the exterior of the chimney at no extra charge. On top of that, Vitality was very responsive to my questions and needs and informative in his advice on my options. The crew, too, were punctual, fast and courteous, and they left the place as clean as when they started. I've used the fireplace several times and am very pleased with their work; I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Chimney Inspectors."

"We had a good experience with GraniteWorks. We were budget-conscious and looking for good service/warranty. We ended up spending a little more than we thought, because the measure tech suggested a larger overhand than we planned and others quoted.
The selection of stone was good.
The price was standard.
The staff was very friendly and professional, both during the sales and the measure/install.
The warranty from Granite Works is not very good for time duration. (Counter Intelligence is better, but their customer service was not very good.)
GraniteWorks was responsive to phone and email.
The Installers did a great job and were very courteous. The install went according to plan and looks good.
The seams are not very visible unless you try looking for them. I had suggestions/preferences, spoke up, and they were addressed.
They followed up to make sure I was happy.
Overall, let these guys give you an estimate. They are good.

"We had been told by a home inspector and another chimney sweep/repair company that we needed to replace our damper with a new lock-top damper requiring an adapter - a costly repair on our budget.   Prior to committing to the repair, we called A&T to come out and give us a second opinion.  Dennis from A&T evaluated our chimney and determined that the damper was basically fine but just a little rusty.   They applied some oil to the damper so it would move more freely and that was that.  
Not only did they save us hundreds of dollars on a repair we didn't need, they charged $0 for the visit and the (admittedly minor) work.  Dennis also pointed out another important repair that was needed - the heat reflecting panels that line the inside of the fireplace were cracked, which is a potential fire hazard.  This hadn't even been mentioned by the home inspector or the other chimney company.
So although I can't judge the quality of their work beyond applying a bit of oil, I can attest to their courtesy, integrity and professionalism and say that  from now on, I will call them first for all of my chimney needs.

"Contacted H & F through their website. Received quick response. H & F proposed a service call between 12:00 and 3:00 the next day. I accepted. Mike arrived at 12:00. Within 10 minutes he diagnosed the problem as a faulty dual motor run capacitor. He had one in his truck and installed the new one. He then spent about 45 minutes thoroughly checking out the air conditioner function and refrigerant level. Everything checked out OK. Mike is clearly a very skilled professional. When I replace this system I will definitely seek their bid. Note: I appreciated that he did not try to push a new system in spite of the fact that the system he was repairing is 26 years old."
