"Replacement of chimney went very well and I am very pleased with the look. Previous chimney was leaking through mortar cracks and was faced with basalt rock. It would have been very expensive to tear down and replace and Chris suggested several brick colors, dropped them over for us to consider, and drew some pictures of replacement chimney to match mid century house and neighborhood. He also reused old cap material on new chimney and was able to use material to repair rear brick chimney cap."

"They arrived right at the beginning of the time slot. They repaired all three crowns with new mortar, then sealed them plus the top crown. They wire brushed the chimney and applied a sealant on the whole chimney. Since I did not obtain any other bids for this work, I have no idea how good or bad the price is, thus the B grade for price. They have done prior work for me and have cleaned my chimney for years so I trust them. Workers were friendly and polite and cleaned everything up when they were done."

"I needed to get my chimney repaired before the roof was replaced in about 3 weeks. I was having difficulty finding a top-rated Angie's List mason willing to come out to Carnation. Craftsman was very responsive to my situation. I left a message on their machine on a Friday, they returned my call and came out to look at the job on the following Monday, and returned 4 days later to do the work. They arrived on time and promptly completed the work in a professional manner. Steve and Alexander were very easy to work with. <br /> My only concern was the cost. The job was bid at $420 which I thought was a bit high at the time, but having no one else to turn to, I accepted the seemingly high cost as a consequence of the situation I was in. I had been told over the phone by another mason who and quot;didn't service Carnationand quot; that I should expect the repair to cost around $150 (plus the cost of the sealing and sweeping). Two people were on-site for exactly 1 hour so the cost worked out to around $200 per man-hour plus materials. <br /> Aside from my perceived high cost for the project, I would definitely use Craftsman again. <br />"

"I used them before I moved from my previous house. They did recapping and reflashing old chimney. The guy was very good. I would give him A all across the board. He came out and showed me my options. He pointed out the advantages and disadvantages to me. He also told about the various techniques and walked me through what he was going to do. He told me that he will not be able to do it for two more months until the weather cleared. He did the work when he was ready to do and he called me before that. He finished the work in two days. I recommend this guy to everybody I talk to."

"We had our chimney (with two flues) inspected earlier this year by Andrew Wilt and he had recommended a number of maintenance items, including repairing a cracked crown, parging one of our flues, and applying a water repellant to the outside of our chimney bricks. Today Geoff came out and did these repairs. Everything got done, including applying two coats of water repellent. The crown coat looks great and will extend the life of the crown. He was able to get everything done in under six hours, finishing about an hour before it started raining. He had to remove the chimney caps I had added after Andrew's inspection, and put them back exactly as I had them. No plants were damaged; no trash was left on our property. He took time to discuss the job, before and after, and answered all my questions. Both he and Andrew were thorough and pleasant to work with. Andrew's inspection cost $137. Geoff's work cost $1374, with an Angies List discount."

"That string of A's  I gave Smith Masonry is not grade inflation - those are real old-fashioned A's. <br /> Robert Smith (and his assistant Jerrod) did a fantastic job; really great work.  I found him through a Big Deal on Angie's List. We have owned our house for 13 years and never done any of the masonry repairs I knew it needed. I did not know how much repairs would cost but I knew the 8 hours of work covered by the Big Deal would not come close to covering all of it. We decided to use this Big Deal as kind of an audition to see what we thought of the whole process. If we liked it, we would get the rest of the work done when we could afford it. <br /> To make a long story short, we will not hesitate to employ Smith Masonry to do any and all remaining masonry work on our house. <br /> Robert and Jerrod showed up on time. Very nice people. I told Robert about some of the more obvious things I was concerned about. He agreed that the things I pointed out were problems but pointed out a bunch of other things that he said, while not obvious, were potentially much greater problems. He explained stuff in great detail. He showed me a bunch of issues as he was working. It was obvious from his masonry "geek" behavior (a compliment) that he knows his stuff and his happy to share that knowledge. I decided to trust his choices. He called me outside several additional times to explain what they were doing and exactly why they were doing it. He was attacking a bunch of different areas I had never even noticed had problems. I wondered how it would all look when he was done. In fact, his work ended up being pretty much invisible. I had expected to see large expanses of very different looking brickwork where he had fixed things. I was surprised to realize that I could not see where he had worked even though I knew the spots. The only difference was that all the cracks and holes and crumbling mortar were gone. What was left looked like it had been there for 85 years. Good trick. I guess I know what "restoration" means now. <br /> These guys really worked hard the whole time they were here. They gave us our money's worth and then some.  They ended up covering a much larger area than I originally thought they could do. Also, they did a great job cleaning up after themselves. <br />"

"We have an older gas fireplace (circa 2000). I saw that Olympia Fireplace and Spa had better reviews here than other places around town. I called and told them that our gas fireplace wasn't working. I thought the pilot ignition was broken and/or the gas had stopped flowing. Neither of which I felt comfortable tackling myself. <br /> I had to provide the model so they could be sure it was one they could service. I thought that was a great benefit. As opposed to sending someone out to discover whether they could or could not service my fireplace, they checked ahead of time. <br /> When the service technician arrived on the appointed day and time, he checked all the connections and cleaned it thoroughly. The gas line was clogged with dirt and dust. After cleaning it, the fireplace was working great. That was it. It took about an hour. <br />"
