"What a wonderful experience! Nick did a perfect job refacing my ugly, brick fireplace. He was polite and listened to my vision of what I wanted the fireplace to look like. Nick prepared and completed the work with respect for my home. Thank you Nick! Flue Tech was a delight to work with. Phone calls were friendly and I was notified when Nick would be arriving in the morning. There was no waiting. All service companies should be run like Flue Tech! "The company rapidly responded to the service request and booked an appointment with me in a timely fashion. Technician, John, arrived on time and did call 20-30 minutes prior to arrival. He was polite, profession and respected the property. Quickly diagnosed the issue and provided me with several options after showing me and explaining the issue with the fireplace. Fortunately the parts were in his truck and he was able to quickly effect a repair. Everything was cleaned up and he even cleaned the fireplace glass insert (this is a natural gas fireplace). I am very pleased with this company's professionalism from start to finish. I will be keeping them on file should another issue arise. Thank you Chimney Experts for your assistance!!"

"We had an excellent experience from beginning to end.  We worked with Fernando and was very impressed with the professionalism by him and his workers.  They even did some extra work (sealing) on another stone countertop that we already and did not charge.  I would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone who is looking for a thorough job, fair price, and professionalism from beginning to end.

"Great! punctual, friendly, fast, and taught me a lot about fireplaces as a new owner. Gave me an estimate for crown repair on the spot which I didn't do that day, but will need to soon."

"Contractor came and finished on the day and time he promised. He matched the brick on the replaced chimney to the  two fireplace chimneys. His workmanship was of high quality and he cleaned up after he was finished. He was very personable and was proud of his work as he should be.. Overall, he did an outstanding job and I was very pleased .

"A few weeks ago, high winds blew off my chimney cap. It was installed 15 years ago by a supposedly reputable chimney sweep along with the installation of what was supposed to be a "full length" chimney liner. He also tarred the chimney above roof line.
With my being somewhat afraid of heights, my wife found very good reviews of Safety First Chimney & Fireplace Restoration on another online review site and made an appointment for Tuesday 4/12. Vincent showed up promptly to replace the cap. It took all of 3 minutes.  He showed me a few pictures of my chimney on his phone. I was shocked to discover how deteriorated it was! Half the tar was gone, there were big chunks of mortar missing from between the bricks and some were even shifted out of place. You didn't have to be an expert to see that it needed a complete rebuild. He also mentioned that the liner material was very flimsy. Being thorough he asked to check the base of the chimney at the boiler and discovered that the liner didn't even go to the bottom. He called me down to see for myself. That was the moment I decided I liked and trusted Vincent. He involved me, and let me see with my own eyes what the issues were! Knowing that such an essential aspect of my home should not be ignored, I agreed to have all matters addressed, and made another appointment for Friday 4/15.
Demolition was quick due to the poor condition of the old chimney. Vincent then removed the old liner. It was only 15' long, falling about 7' short of the furnace connector!  He also showed me a piece of the liner. It really was "coffee can thin" and filled with ridges on the inside which collected soot and particles. He installed a smooth core, heavy stainless steel, double walled liner.
Next came the "roof up" chimney rebuild. Vincent offered a choice of new or old brick. I opted for old brick, in keeping with my old house. I am very pleased with the masonry work! I'm no expert but I've laid a few bricks in my time and can really appreciate what a nice job it is. Everything's straight, level, well spaced and proportioned. He even topped it with a red clay flu liner. Something my old chimney didn't have. And of course he replaced my old stainless cap which was just fine. It's so nice I wish I could upload a picture here. He posts pics on his website so maybe you can see it there.
Highly recommended!

"I have a wood-burning fireplace that I don’t use to burn wood. I have an electric insert instead. But the flue would not stay closed. Last winter was very very drafty in my living room. I reached in and tried to fix it myself but did not have the tools or the ability but the gentleman from Fixed and Fair had both. He was here just a short time and did not charge me anything. I would recommend this company highly. (But would like to suggest they put their address on their business cards. I had to look it up on Google to enter this review above!)"

FAQs for brick or stone fireplace repair projects in Lebanon, NJ

Permit requirements for fireplace insert removal vary by location and project scope. While removing an electric insert rarely requires permits, gas insert removals often do because they involve modifications to gas lines. Some municipalities also require permits for changes to structural elements or venting systems. Check with your local building department before beginning your project. Professional fireplace services typically handle permit acquisition as part of their package.

Removing a fireplace insert can potentially impact your home's value. Since fireplaces are desirable features in many housing markets, removing an insert (especially if it eliminates the fireplace's functionality) might negatively affect your property value. If you're planning to sell your home soon, consider keeping the fireplace intact. For homeowners planning to stay long-term, the potential energy efficiency gains from removing an inefficient fireplace might outweigh future resale considerations.

The time required to remove a fireplace insert depends on several factors, including the type of insert, its installation complexity, and whether structural modifications are needed. Professional removal services can typically complete the job in a single day, though complex situations involving gas lines, electrical work, or structural changes may require additional time. Your removal specialist should provide a time estimate based on your specific situation.

Many fireplace inserts contain recyclable materials, particularly metal components that can be processed at scrap facilities. Working inserts in good condition, especially wood-burning models, might have resale value. Before disposal, consider checking with recycling centers, architectural salvage shops, or online marketplaces to explore options for giving your old insert a second life. This approach can be both environmentally responsible and potentially offset some of your removal costs.
