"

I needed Joe and his son Tony on two occasions over the past two months.  Each time, I was met with friendly, on time service and very fair pricing.  Joe is very conscientious about doing a good job, and I like the chemistry he and his son have.  They work well together, fast and efficient.

Joe takes great pride in his work.  Of course, I'm in a rush to get things done, but after a particularly rainy weekend, Joe completed half my job one day and recommended that I wait two more days to let the bricks dry out as the humidity and moisture in the bricks were making the job look presentable but not right.  Joe wanted to do it right, which I respect.

I would use Brick Solutions again and again, and I would have no problem referring them to anyone else.

Ed called me the next morning (~10 hours after my email) and told me he was in the area and could stop by and take a look.  I was on my way to work but described the issue and told him to feel free and take a look.  He called me back about an hour later and discussed what he thought the issues were.  He explained he didn't think it was a leaky skylight, but more of a water issue from the gutter downspouts.  He suggested a simple and cheap fix that he thought would solve the issue.  He said if that didn't work there were more invasive options we could move forward with but suggested trying the simple fix first (which I greatly appreciated).  He suggested we just get a handy man to do the fix - they do larger repairs.

He was very professional, knowledgeable and helpful.  I appreciated the honesty and the suggested simple fix.  We live in a fairly large house and I am always skeptical to have contractors come over because very often, they see the size of our house and see dollar signs.  This was not the case with Ed.  I will definitely call him when it is time to replace our roof or we have any other leaks.

Thanks Ed!

"The guys that came to my house were Jerry and Ricky. They were really easy-going, covered their shoes before they came into my house and were really nice to dogs that were barking like crazy. They were really kind to my little boy that seemed to talk them to death.
After the repair, they came back out two times to make sure that everything was still working fine, at no charge.
I would definitely use them again.

"I highly recommend Gary & Richard. There was a lot of work done, and it was done exceptionally! The entrance, exit, and restroom doors to my restaurant were in great need of repair. The doors are used heavily. Richard was very thorough and has an excellent eye for detail and takes enormous pride in his work. If you need a Handy Man Service, go with Gary's Handyman Service! Sincerely, Isaac Evans - Cary, NC."

"Well, until they left. Randy was to return to 1) replace a cast iron shower pan that cracked during installation 3) fix the buckled vinyl flooring his crew put in one bathroom and the pantry and 3) mount a chimney cap. Never did. But the worst is that Randy took a 200 year old slab of old-growth pine (approximately 30" wide by 42" long by 2.5" thick) salvaged from my great-great-grandparents' home and promise me a coffee table. TWO YEARS LATER I CAN'T EVEN GET THE SLAB BACK."

"Roof repair was fine. My gutters needed two elbow spouts installed.
One on the left and one on the right.
Unfortunately they had only one elbow spout on the truck at the day of repair.
The missing elbow duct was not replaced until earlier this month after I had
to call the owner from Aug. 2011 to Feb. 2012.
He told me to engage another company to replace the
elbow spout and I left numerous messages for them but they never responded.
I continued calling CSR every 4 -5 weeks to remind them.
In Nov. the owner of SCR called the lady and told her to add this part to my roof.
Unfortunately he left that msg on my answering machine.
I called and reported same to Son of owner.
I finally called again earlier this month and the owner of the company exploded
on the phone and thold me he had never met anyone that had "hounded" him
this much and to get the builder to take care of the missing part. The builder
never agreed to repair anything claiming a short two year roof warranty.
(Another story all together)....
I reminded CSR of the circumstances of the situation and FINALLY a company
came and installed the missing elbow spout.
It took from Augl 2011 until Feb. 2012 to get this missing part installed.
I did not appreciate being scolded for asking for something to complete the roof repair 100%.
It is not my problem how they stock their truck!"

FAQs for brick or stone fireplace repair projects in Durham, NC

Permit requirements for fireplace insert removal vary by location and project scope. While removing an electric insert rarely requires permits, gas insert removals often do because they involve modifications to gas lines. Some municipalities also require permits for changes to structural elements or venting systems. Check with your local building department before beginning your project. Professional fireplace services typically handle permit acquisition as part of their package.

Removing a fireplace insert can potentially impact your home's value. Since fireplaces are desirable features in many housing markets, removing an insert (especially if it eliminates the fireplace's functionality) might negatively affect your property value. If you're planning to sell your home soon, consider keeping the fireplace intact. For homeowners planning to stay long-term, the potential energy efficiency gains from removing an inefficient fireplace might outweigh future resale considerations.

The time required to remove a fireplace insert depends on several factors, including the type of insert, its installation complexity, and whether structural modifications are needed. Professional removal services can typically complete the job in a single day, though complex situations involving gas lines, electrical work, or structural changes may require additional time. Your removal specialist should provide a time estimate based on your specific situation.

Many fireplace inserts contain recyclable materials, particularly metal components that can be processed at scrap facilities. Working inserts in good condition, especially wood-burning models, might have resale value. Before disposal, consider checking with recycling centers, architectural salvage shops, or online marketplaces to explore options for giving your old insert a second life. This approach can be both environmentally responsible and potentially offset some of your removal costs.
