Customers say: Super punctual

"Mike Atwell of J May Home Inspection recently inspected my new condo. He was extremely helpful from our first phone conversation and throughout the inspection. He was very punctual and spent three hours looking closely at every feature of my home. He did not rush, answered my questions and patiently explained how many of the systems and features work. He sent me a detailed, preliminary report within 24 hours, and quickly followed up with a final report by US mail. My realtor said she had never seen such a comprehensive inspection report. Mr. Atwell is a consummate professional, with more than 20 years' experience as a home inspector, building consultant, teacher, former president and VP and active board member of the American Society of Home Inspectors. He is committed to educating and protecting consumers and is driving legislation to do so. Read: [*** Link removed ***] I highly recommend J May Home Inspection."

"The guy looked at the roof and said that I didn’t need roofing, but I needed to repair my chimney.  He recommended somebody to repair the chimney.  I ended up not needing any roofing work.  He was very professional.  He made a very thorough inspection of my roof and said that there was nothing wrong with my roofing and recommended a company to take care of my chimney.  I haven’t seen his work, but my interaction with him was an A.  His responsiveness and punctuality was very good.  I would call him if I need roofing work in the future."

"We recently had Avid Home Energy come out to perform a Home Energy Assessment, and the experience has been fantastic from start to finish. The team was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to clearly explain how much we could save through the Mass Save program. They walked us through all of the available incentives and made the process easy to understand. We?re already starting the recommended work this week and couldn?t be happier with how smooth everything has gone so far. It?s great working with a company that truly cares about helping homeowners improve comfort and save money on energy costs. Highly recommend Avid Home Energy!"

"This was a replacement of a 25 year old roof on a 100 year old home on Lake Winnipesaukee, Wolfeboro, New Hampshire.  There were many challenges with this project which included re-roofing many intersects brought about by the architecture of the building.  Complicating the process were protruding dormers, skylights and many chimney and wood stove flue and penetrations through the roof structure.
This contractor provided a thorough work specification and performed the services as described.  As this building is occupied by three unit owners, it was important to get and review three competitive bids.  After discussing the bid details, this contractor was unanimously chosen for the job.
The job was scheduled for the first full week of November and a crew of ten started promptly as scheduled on Monday November 4.  It was estimated to be a two day job (which I thought was very unlikely).  By the end of the first day, all of the old roof had been removed and most of the new roof installed.  The second day was used to complete the detail trim and was subject to a thorough review and quality check by the owner.  The entire crew then walked the property to ensure all debris and nails were removed.
I have used this contractor previously on another property I own.  I then provided this contractor as a reference to a friend of mine, who was also very happy with all aspects of the job.  I would not hesitate to use or refer Adam Vaillancourt, LLC in the future.  I thought I was picky about making sure jobs get done on schedule, on time and on budget.  Adam Vaillancourt, LLC is one of the best contractors I have ever dealt with!

"After an unusual situation arose at my home, I was concerned about the possibility of structural damage caused by drilling and new construction at an adjacent lot. After receiving a recommendation for Veitas Engineers from a trusted source, I called and scheduled an appointment. I am so thankful that I did. I continue to be impressed with the amount of time that the two engineers spent at my house, closely inspecting the exterior and interior. Within days, I received a 16-page detailed report which included drawings, photographs, recommendations, and action items. I was so pleased when I saw that the action items were categorized as structural and non-structural, that is, that the engineers included items beyond my actual structural concerns. I used the report when working with a contractor to follow up on the recommendations and action items. The contractor was impressed with the quality, clarity, and scope of the report. I am so happy that I chose Veitas Engineers!"

FAQs for home inspection projects in Shirley, MA

Most mobile home inspections require two to three hours to complete properly. The timeline varies based on your home's size, age, and overall condition. Inspectors need sufficient time to examine all major systems, document their findings, and compile their observations.

If the inspector discovers concerning issues that warrant deeper investigation, the process may take longer. For the most thorough assessment, try to schedule your inspection during daylight hours when visibility is optimal.

Pay close attention to water damage indicators like ceiling stains, warped flooring, or musty odors. Structural concerns, including uneven floors, sagging rooflines, or doors that won't close properly, suggest potential foundation issues. Electrical problems such as flickering lights, warm outlets, or outdated wiring present serious safety hazards.

Impromptu modifications or repairs performed without proper permits often signal deeper problems. Windows that don't seal properly may indicate structural shifting or water infiltration.

Yes, professional inspectors evaluate the foundation components and anchoring mechanisms during a thorough assessment. They examine support piers, blocks, and tie-downs for proper installation and condition. The inspection includes checking for appropriate ground clearance and adequate ventilation beneath the home.

Proper anchoring is essential for stability during adverse weather conditions. Foundation issues can affect everything from door alignment to plumbing function, making this a critical part of any comprehensive inspection.

Industry professionals recommend scheduling maintenance inspections every two to three years for manufactured homes. Homes in regions with extreme weather conditions may benefit from more frequent evaluations. Consider arranging an inspection after significant storms or if you notice any unusual changes in your home's condition.

Regular assessments help identify minor issues before they develop into major problems. Maintaining documentation of these inspections also provides valuable records for insurance purposes or future sale considerations.

Search for inspectors with certifications from recognized professional organizations in your state. Specialized training or experience with manufactured housing is particularly valuable for these unique structures. Ask potential inspectors about their familiarity with HUD standards for manufactured homes. Professional membership in industry associations often indicates commitment to ongoing education and ethical standards. Request sample reports from prospective inspectors to evaluate their thoroughness and clarity of communication.

Many insurance providers consider inspection results when determining policy rates and coverage terms. A positive report demonstrating well-maintained systems and the absence of hazards may qualify you for better rates. Addressing issues identified during inspection demonstrates proactive maintenance that insurers often reward. Some companies offer specific discounts for homes that meet certain safety and structural standards.

Contact your insurance provider before scheduling an inspection to understand exactly what documentation they require for potential premium reductions.
