Customers say: Super punctual

"Jason showed up early and was extremely detailed on our home inspection. He completed the report with photos of the entire property the same day. He also outlined tasks that need to be done in short and long term periods. We had a really great experience with him and would recommend him to anyone!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"Mike Atwell of J May Home Inspection recently inspected my new condo. He was extremely helpful from our first phone conversation and throughout the inspection. He was very punctual and spent three hours looking closely at every feature of my home. He did not rush, answered my questions and patiently explained how many of the systems and features work. He sent me a detailed, preliminary report within 24 hours, and quickly followed up with a final report by US mail. My realtor said she had never seen such a comprehensive inspection report. Mr. Atwell is a consummate professional, with more than 20 years' experience as a home inspector, building consultant, teacher, former president and VP and active board member of the American Society of Home Inspectors. He is committed to educating and protecting consumers and is driving legislation to do so. Read: [*** Link removed ***] I highly recommend J May Home Inspection."

"Estimate was quick and simple. Didn't try and sell me too much such as doing the whole roof at a discount (which others did), and advised against extra work I asked about due to it making worse past issues with ice dams. Took care of everything else themselves. Followed up with me; but didn't try and chase me down for sale either which was nice. Price was good and very competitive, considering many places only do a full roof (other half was done with a new addition 5 years before). Scheduled a few weeks in advance and came on days and times scheduled. Payment was simple and easy, and communications with support staff went well. Only reason for not giving them an A is they missed a small part of a bay window they said they would do to match up with other shingles and seemed to leave in a rush as they left a couple of tools and extension cords there. Also did a good job cleaning up; but wasn't spotless either and found a bunch of leftover nails on roof, driveway, and in bushes (less so old shingles). Just left extra shingles in pile by driveway door and didn't hear anything else from them on job. But after inspection and winter job seems well done and these are minor issues. Not enough to call about, just not A level. Would recommend them.

"Following our call to Roofers Edge and Siding; Kevin Blakeman, the owner of the company promptly scheduled an appointment at our home. After taking measurements, he wrote out a very detailed estimate outlining all of the details of the job work to be performed. Originally, we were interested in replacing the siding. But, he offered to provide two separate estimates – one for the roof and one for the siding. Both estimates were very thorough and easy to understand. Additionally, the siding estimate was considerably lower than a quote we received from another contractor in the area.
Mr. Blakeman informed us that his crews work year-round. He estimated the roof would be completely done in one day;
and the siding would take about two weeks (…we requested that he remove all existing cedar shingles from the siding before installing the new vinyl siding). He scheduled the roof to be completed in early January, 2014 about one month following the date we signed our contract. It would have been sooner, but there was a lot of inclement weather preventing his crews from safely working on the roof.
A couple of weeks later, his crews spent one day removing all of the existing cedar shingles, installing a foam insulation board and cleaning up the work debris. Following some additional weather related delays, his crew got to work on the vinyl siding. Within a few weeks, they had completed the job. His crews were extremely hard working; and routinely asked if we had questions or if we were happy with the work product.
Throughout the duration of both projects, Mr. Blakeman was remained in contact with us to address any questions we had.
While the project took a few weeks longer than anticipated, most of the delays were weather related. We are very pleased with the finished product; if we had to do it again, we might wait until the spring so as not to worry about winter weather related delays. Also, we might suggest you skip the leaf guards – while they keep the leaves out; the wholes are too fine for water to flow when there is heavy rain.

FAQs for home inspection projects in Stow, MA

Most mobile home inspections require two to three hours to complete properly. The timeline varies based on your home's size, age, and overall condition. Inspectors need sufficient time to examine all major systems, document their findings, and compile their observations.

If the inspector discovers concerning issues that warrant deeper investigation, the process may take longer. For the most thorough assessment, try to schedule your inspection during daylight hours when visibility is optimal.

Pay close attention to water damage indicators like ceiling stains, warped flooring, or musty odors. Structural concerns, including uneven floors, sagging rooflines, or doors that won't close properly, suggest potential foundation issues. Electrical problems such as flickering lights, warm outlets, or outdated wiring present serious safety hazards.

Impromptu modifications or repairs performed without proper permits often signal deeper problems. Windows that don't seal properly may indicate structural shifting or water infiltration.

Yes, professional inspectors evaluate the foundation components and anchoring mechanisms during a thorough assessment. They examine support piers, blocks, and tie-downs for proper installation and condition. The inspection includes checking for appropriate ground clearance and adequate ventilation beneath the home.

Proper anchoring is essential for stability during adverse weather conditions. Foundation issues can affect everything from door alignment to plumbing function, making this a critical part of any comprehensive inspection.

Industry professionals recommend scheduling maintenance inspections every two to three years for manufactured homes. Homes in regions with extreme weather conditions may benefit from more frequent evaluations. Consider arranging an inspection after significant storms or if you notice any unusual changes in your home's condition.

Regular assessments help identify minor issues before they develop into major problems. Maintaining documentation of these inspections also provides valuable records for insurance purposes or future sale considerations.

Search for inspectors with certifications from recognized professional organizations in your state. Specialized training or experience with manufactured housing is particularly valuable for these unique structures. Ask potential inspectors about their familiarity with HUD standards for manufactured homes. Professional membership in industry associations often indicates commitment to ongoing education and ethical standards. Request sample reports from prospective inspectors to evaluate their thoroughness and clarity of communication.

Many insurance providers consider inspection results when determining policy rates and coverage terms. A positive report demonstrating well-maintained systems and the absence of hazards may qualify you for better rates. Addressing issues identified during inspection demonstrates proactive maintenance that insurers often reward. Some companies offer specific discounts for homes that meet certain safety and structural standards.

Contact your insurance provider before scheduling an inspection to understand exactly what documentation they require for potential premium reductions.
