"J May Home Inspections is probably the best in New England. All aspects of the inspection were done in a timely, efficient, knowledgeable, professional manner. Mike first provided a summary of the relevant issues and then quickly followed up with a comprehensive report. The price was fair and the inspection done to the highest standards. He patiently and clearly answered all questions during the walkthrough of the home and property. I would recommend J May Home Inspection and Milke to anyway needing a home inspection in this area."

"Mr Sobol performed an inspection of a 1700 sq ft home in Shrewsbury. He made himself available on short notice. This was my 4th home purchase, and I know a few things - but, he found several things that I missed. He was eager to explain the tradeoffs and the concerns about various items. Ultimately, his findings led to an additional $9k of consideration from the seller. Though he did not estimate the work, his report allowed me to create an estimate spreadsheet that allowed me to negotiate from a well-informed position."

"Stuart is professional, thorough, responsive and very knowledgeable. He patiently answered all of our questions throughout the inspection and we left feeling like we had a great understanding of the home we're buying. As for the inspection report itself, I intend to reference it for months and years to come as I prioritize improvements. Stuart was also able to turn the report around quickly to accommodate the timelines of our purchase. I would 100% recommend him to anyone in need of home inspection services."

"We had an inkling that our recently purchased home would need to have the gutters cleaned out sooner rather than later. That was confirmed when we found water leaking into the house during yesterday's storm! Joe was very accommodating and able to get a crew out the next day - talk about service. They found completely full gutters and blocked downspouts but removed it all in between today's showers. I couldn't be more pleased, he really helped us out."

"I called Tim to come to our house to give us an estimate for applying a rubber roof to our home extension.  He was very prompt and informative (unlike many other roofers that I called). I could tell from his diagnosis that he was  very knowledgeable and experienced in the roofing business.  He provided a very reasonable estimate shortly after his visit. It was important to me to have the work done very soon before the cold weather set in and thankfully Tim made time in his busy schedule to meet my needs.   The work was top notch and I no longer have leaking problems in my roof.  It was a pleasant experience."

"We had a great experience with Doherty Slate Roofing and would highly recommend Jason and his team. Jason came out in person to inspect our 1930s slate roof and talked us through the repair work and the advantages of the snow retention system. Liz in the office was responsive and super helpful. The work was easily scheduled and completed ahead of time exactly as quoted ($ 4,300 for snow guard and missing slates). These guys are gems - so hard to find experienced and knowledgeable slate contractors these days. We’ll definitely be calling them back for regular repair and maintenance work. Thank you Doherty!"

"My experience is very similar to many others here.  Willard Co. proved to be a highly skilled, professional firm with obvious pride in doing first-class work.  From the initial inspection and detailed quote provided by Mr. Willard himself, to the briefing he provided to his crew on-site on the morning of the job, to the final cleanup, their performance was exemplary.
As an indication of the stability of this multi-generational firm, the crew chief on our job had been with the firm for over 12 years- this must  be extraordinary in the roofing business.
In short, we can recommend this firm without reservation.

"Chimney flashing had come loose so the roof was leaking.  With all the snow we had they were super busy but they promised to get to us before the end of the year.  The day they were able to come we couldn't be home so they carried everything up ladders to the roof of our Cambridge triple decker.  I was so happy to discover (returning home) that the job had been completed--and especially since it snowed and snowed and snowed right after that repair.  We will need to have this roof totally done at some point; I'll call Newton Roofing again.

We did some back and forth calling.  There was a lot of leaky roofs and roofers were really slammed when we needed ours done too.  But they didn't over-promise and got the work done by the date they said they would.  The price wasn't the lowest (estimate) but it wasn't the highest either.  We all thought it was fair (condo assoc)."

FAQs for home inspection projects in Brighton, MA

Most mobile home inspections require two to three hours to complete properly. The timeline varies based on your home's size, age, and overall condition. Inspectors need sufficient time to examine all major systems, document their findings, and compile their observations.

If the inspector discovers concerning issues that warrant deeper investigation, the process may take longer. For the most thorough assessment, try to schedule your inspection during daylight hours when visibility is optimal.

Pay close attention to water damage indicators like ceiling stains, warped flooring, or musty odors. Structural concerns, including uneven floors, sagging rooflines, or doors that won't close properly, suggest potential foundation issues. Electrical problems such as flickering lights, warm outlets, or outdated wiring present serious safety hazards.

Impromptu modifications or repairs performed without proper permits often signal deeper problems. Windows that don't seal properly may indicate structural shifting or water infiltration.

Yes, professional inspectors evaluate the foundation components and anchoring mechanisms during a thorough assessment. They examine support piers, blocks, and tie-downs for proper installation and condition. The inspection includes checking for appropriate ground clearance and adequate ventilation beneath the home.

Proper anchoring is essential for stability during adverse weather conditions. Foundation issues can affect everything from door alignment to plumbing function, making this a critical part of any comprehensive inspection.

Industry professionals recommend scheduling maintenance inspections every two to three years for manufactured homes. Homes in regions with extreme weather conditions may benefit from more frequent evaluations. Consider arranging an inspection after significant storms or if you notice any unusual changes in your home's condition.

Regular assessments help identify minor issues before they develop into major problems. Maintaining documentation of these inspections also provides valuable records for insurance purposes or future sale considerations.

Search for inspectors with certifications from recognized professional organizations in your state. Specialized training or experience with manufactured housing is particularly valuable for these unique structures. Ask potential inspectors about their familiarity with HUD standards for manufactured homes. Professional membership in industry associations often indicates commitment to ongoing education and ethical standards. Request sample reports from prospective inspectors to evaluate their thoroughness and clarity of communication.

Many insurance providers consider inspection results when determining policy rates and coverage terms. A positive report demonstrating well-maintained systems and the absence of hazards may qualify you for better rates. Addressing issues identified during inspection demonstrates proactive maintenance that insurers often reward. Some companies offer specific discounts for homes that meet certain safety and structural standards.

Contact your insurance provider before scheduling an inspection to understand exactly what documentation they require for potential premium reductions.
